Well did my first park run today at Rutland water, was really not sure how I would do as only started running again about 3 weeks ago after many years of not running, so was well chuffed to do it in 28.01. Looking at my split times I started off steady as not sure how it would pan out but did the last km 46 seconds quicker than the first so hopefully by setting the right pace should be able to chip away at the time.
Congrats, great time for your first one!Evanivitch said:
Turned up late today and started at the back. I reckon it took 20 seconds to cross the start line another 20 lost in the traffic. Anyone else have similar experience?
I ran the same as last week, but took a lot more effort. Quite happy now I'm getting back into it. Going to need to visit a flat course in a couple of weeks and try sub 20.
Never turned up late, but have run from the back just to see what it was like, quite good fun, overtaking all the way and not miles away from normal pace, I was about 25 secs slower than the week before.I ran the same as last week, but took a lot more effort. In other news, 150,070 runners yesterday and 11,531 volunteers, that's the first time we've been over 150k runners.

Did my second Parkrun this year(!) Really need to get back into it. Feel like I've lost all motivation since hitting both my goals (sub 20 min 5k and get the 50 Parkrun t shirt) as I used to go every week.
Managed a 21:53 and had a great sprint finish with another guy over the last 100 metres (I won - just!).
I've set myself a sub 20 time target too. Currently my PB is 22:31 which I got last week somehow as I felt like I ran awful!Managed a 21:53 and had a great sprint finish with another guy over the last 100 metres (I won - just!).
Did you do anything in particular to lower your times? I'm planning on doing a mix of 5k, 10k and interval training and seeing how I go. I have a good diet and don't drink much alcahol anyway so no major lifestyle change needed!
It's pretty brutal but it definitely helps.

Yeah, unless your Olympic standard it doesn't really matter, if you're fast you're fast. Puts pay to the sense of entitlement for some. It's nice to see the same ppl overtake at the same points. In other news, 150,070 runners yesterday and 11,531 volunteers, that's the first time we've been over 150k runners.

Original target by xmas was sub 30, then sub 27. Suppose sub 25 now lol
Exactly the same for me and we're on a very similar trajectory as well. Sub 25 is now my Christmas goal, I'm 15 weeks in and usually manage 1 or 2 evening runs per week, usually 5k but slower than Parkrun speed. For the hell of it I took yesterday off and entered a local 10k today instead. I've only ever ran more than 5k twice but I managed 55 minutes for the 10k today, thrilled, felt better than after a quick (25:30-26 minute) 5k parkrun as well.
Might just be me but running further is quite a bit easier than running faster.

Next stage is to get off road and up some proper hills
I'm doing 4 10ks (one per month) over the winter on the Bath Skyline. Muddy and very hilly so should be an experience. Will be interesting to see how it compares to my flat 10k time. I doubt you'll go quicker than your flat 10k because there's more going on off road, slippy surface and you have to constantly plan your route around rocks, tree roots or just skip over the top of them.
I bet in the spring though when you do a road 10k you'll be faster because you don't have to think just run and let rip.
Give one of the endurancelife coastal trail runs a go , they have 10k , half, marathon options.
I think it'll be a eye opener as to what very hilly is and very technical terrain ie very narrow , rocky on a cliff path.
Forgot my watch today so followed someone who looked about the right pace, caught him up when he slowed down a bit around 3km and I said he'd been pacing me so he couldn't slow down now. Chatted briefly and he stuck with me to the end...where he thanked me for helping him to a new PB. Just checked the results and he got a PB by 10 seconds, but his previous PB was a year ago and we were over a minute faster than any of his recent runs. That felt nearly as good as getting a PB myself

It's great when someone says that. You often don't realise someone is pacing against you until the scanning queue. Part of what parkrun is about.
I did Sunderland today in the drizzle. Nice course and pleased with my time considering the hill right at the end and I was trying to take it easy before a 10 mile off road race tomorrow.

Thrilled with a PB this week as I've not run since last Sunday's 10k, but it felt a lot easier going that quickly after having comfortably run 10k for the first time. Another week off next week as I'm going to attempt a very hilly 8 miler over Salisbury Plain.
Sub 25 by Christmas is still on, could do with a 25 pacer to drag me over the line!

I often wear some quite vivid green shorts and I had a guy thank me in the funnel - he said he had been closing in on the shorts for the final lap! Must wear more sedate gear!I did Sunderland today in the drizzle.
