Thanks for that, sounds roughly what I'm doing.

I've just worked out it's possible for me to do 3 parkruns on the New Year weekend (one on New Years Eve, 2 on New Years Day), the two on New Years Day are 90 minutes apart with a 40 minute drive in in between. Should be fun!

My local (Southwick) are having their normal Saturday parkrun on NYE and also a New Years Day parkrun, both at the usual 9am. Chippenham (16 miles away) are running their New Years Day one at 10:30, which gives just enough time to get over after Southwick and run another one straight away.

parkrun don't allow you to register two runs in one day normally, and that also applies on Christmas Day (when many parkruns are also running extra events, some at odd times). But on New Years Day they allow it as a one-off, so some parkruns run a bit later (10:30 or 11:00) which if there are two close to each other means it's just about do-able.

As Christmas and New Year fall on weekends this year you can quite easily do 5 parkruns in a week over Christmas, all of which will count.

I normally try and do all 5 each festive season, and usually end up getting ill because I do them all too hard in and amongst the other stuff done to excess at the time of year! Christmas Eve will be quite special as it'll be my fifth anniversary since my first Parkrun.

This year, I'll be at the following:

Christmas Eve - Cardiff
Christmas Day - Newport
New Year's Eve - Cannon Hill
New Year's Day 1 - Brueton (unconfirmed, but more than likely to go ahead)
New Year's Day 2 - Perry Hall

Glad we're not the only ones biggrin Our usual new year double parkruns are only about 5 or 6 km apart (Frimley and Rushmoor), last year some loons ran between them, but Rushmoor haven't decided if they're running it yet, so it might have to be Bracknell or Guildford then Frimley.

On top of 5 park runs we've also entered a Boxing day beer run. 5km, down a pint of Hogs Back TEA, and then another km. Bloody hilly course at Hindhead, and last year my wife caught at the beer stop me by downing her pint faster, and then left me for dead in the final km as I couldn't manage to run for more than a few yards at a time with the beer swilling around in me biggrin On current form I should be a few minutes ahead of her at the beer stop this year so might be able to beat her. Not that we're competitive biggrin

Blackhill Parkrun probably should have been cancelled today, very, very icy! I slid around in about 24.30 then did another couple of miles to take my elevation for the run over 500ft. A lot of people must have thought it was going to be cancelled as only about half the usual numbers turned up.

Parkrun, after a very slow runinthedark on Weds, I thought it would be atrocious. Didn't wear the watch but had my strava telling me updates. Felt hard and it was over two minutes faster than Wed. I'll probably just stay at pootling around until the new year. I need to get my legs/ankles/lungs used to hard work again before attempting intervals or pushing it.

Since upping the distances in the week in preparation for a Half Marathon next month my parkrun times seem to have taken a hit - 23 mins this morning, down from a PB of 21.55 a few weeks back. I guess that your body becomes accustomed to whatever you are currently training for - longer runs at a slower pace n my case.

22.52 for me today , 30 seconds off my pb but there were massive puddles the whole way round.

3 miles isn't really my distance , 10 miles plus more up my street .

My next one will be christmas day .

I read an article this week about LSD and speed. If you train for LSD then your speed will maintain itself over distance. One has to add interval/fartlek/hills to maintain or up speed.

Yep, I think that's what has happened as I have neglected the intervals recently. Might try a session involving intervals in the week, 'fast' parkrun on a Saturday and a LSD run on a Sunday and see where that takes me. Although part of me is thinking that I'll just focus on distance for a while longer to improve my base fitness before re-adding intervals, as longer distances are still relatively new to me. Decisions!

Do both I think is the best plan
Doesn't need to be too intense
Minute sprints on treadmill or outside with a minute rest will improve fitness massively

We received an 'official complaint' (as it was put by the runner) yesterday owing to starting at 09:12 and not 09:00. He then went home to complain further on our facebook page. Naturally that worked out really well for him. I can only assume he thinks all the volunteers wanted to stand around in the cold 12 mins longer just for fun.

Did he get lots of abuse? hehe

It can be a bit annoying when they start late, especially if you have to be somewhere afterwards, but complaining about it when the event is entirely run by volunteers seems a little stupid.

Imagine if he ever reaches the lofty heights of running a marathon.

If that was delayed for 12 minutes the knock on effect would be catastrophic wink

We got a pre-race bking from the local charity cafe owner last week. He finally got fed up of park runners churning his grass up by parking on his (private) land and using the toilets without being customers. He challenged a few and got a volley of abuse.

Really annoys me, I think people take it for granted that parkruns just happen, but I know it's caused hassle for the race directors (who are allowed to store all the gear at the cafe). Simply no need to be abusive and risk issues for a fantastic event. We've had similar issues with people parking across driveways before.

Takes the piss using the guys toilets then not coming back and having a coffee or some cake.

This is something cyclists seem to get right, if you put money in a cafes pocket there happy to see you.

Happens at my local run, theres a free car park about 200m walk from the start, easily hold about 200 cars however the public road is only about 30m from the start so plenty of fools park on the road causing an obstruction and generally upsetting the residents. No need for it!

Probably the same idiots who park in the disabled bay outside the gym and then run on the treadmill for an hour.

A complex set of family logistics today meant I either had to take the dog to the parkrun or not do it.

Christ he's a pain in the arse! Like a Tasmanian devil for the first 2k, exerting a strong sideways pull as I tried to go straight before settling down into a steady trot for a bit - then like a recalcitrant teenager for the last 2k as I coaxed him slowly along. He also decided that he fancied a dump at the final turn, so we crossed the line in 24.30, with me nursing a bag of warm dog st frown

So, after a week of running at altitude in Ethipoia and a week of having a cold and hardly running, I managed a 7 sec pb of 22:48 with 69.74%, so still not quite cracked 70% !

Nice to get another PB after nearly 7 years of parkrunnning, was hoping for a bit better than that, ah well, there's always next week!
