I hoping for some advice if I may - I started running again back in Nov at Frimley Park after many years out, and have got my time down from 28.xx to 23.xx whilst at the same time losing some 20lbs in weight. I know I have some 10lbs+ to go, but I really want to concentrate on bring my time down further. There's lots of info out there about training regimes such as couch to 5k, but what I'm looking for is help in improving my fitness, strength and pace. Any pointers please?
Some ideas here.http://the5krunner.com/2011/08/22/5k-sub-20-minute...

After a few weeks pacing, decided to go for it to try to beat my pb from October 16 of 26.50
First 4K I was well on the way to low 26's but a hill in the final k just finished me off and I finished in 26.52
Nice to know I'm in pb form but gutted I missed out by so little grrrr

33 volunteers at Southwick on Saturday (367 runners). As a percentage at a fairly big parkrun that must be right up there, particularly on a 3 lap course so not too many on-course positions to fill.
I was one of them, took photos, great fun in the sunshine: https://www.flickr.com/photos/harry_s/albums/72157...

Finally joined a running club in January after hitting my fastest parkruns just prior to my first marathon last October and seemingly going backwards after that.
So after a few weeks at the club I matched my PB from last October of 19:58... then came a 19:53... then in the last two weeks a 19:39 and a 19:42 at two different courses. So my aim is to get as close as I can to 19:00 before the end of the year

Bit of a long shot, but has anybody visited the Ganavan Sands, Oban event in Scotland? I'm attending a wedding up that way next week and it looks doable, seeing as the start is 09:30 and the hotel is some 30 minutes away.
First 200m or so looks brutal with a rough 17% gradient if Strava is to be believed!

The husband and wife ED at our local event are stepping down as ED after 5+ years due to personal reasons and have handed me the keys
I have been ED in all but name for the past few months anyway so know the drill already. Finally have my name above the door. Not bad for someone who started out volunteering as a token sorter :P

Can't help, but we are up that way for Easter so will be at parkrun. First 200m or so looks brutal with a rough 17% gradient if Strava is to be believed!

At that particular event? If so, I may catch you there as the wedding is over Easter weekend.KTF said:

Good man. My local event is slowly growing its pool of directors, though the sheer size of the event (frequently second largest in the UK) puts a lot of people off from stepping up, myself included!I have been ED in all but name for the past few months anyway so know the drill already. Congratulations and welcome to the gang!I have been ED in all but name for the past few months anyway so know the drill already. Finally have my name above the door. Not bad for someone who started out volunteering as a token sorter :P
I was token sorting when I met my co-ED and we dicided to set up a new event, we both feel that we take more from parkrun than we put in because of the friendships and satisfaction from seeing people achieve things they didn't think they could do, so for us it's never been a chore.
It may be that being solely in charge suits you, for us it's much more comfortable having a co-ED to share the load with if you know someone you can work with.
You should now be invited to the EDs facebook group, PM me if you aren't and I'll invite you. It's a useful group to be in for advice and also somewhere you can have a rant about stupid things that the runners do, safely knowing that it's only EDs and staff on there so you can speak freely!
Thanks but am also an ambassador and they get access to all the official Facebook groups so am already on it. Have no excuse for not going it right either
Have inherited a team of 9 experienced RD and a parkrun of 5+ years with a team of experienced volunteers so the transition should be smooth. Much easier than starting out from scratch. Just need the bump up to admin levels on webfms and the Facebook page so can see who has/hasn't access.
At the moment I am happy being the sole ED. I do have someone in mind as a backup but need to speak to them about it first.

I like the organisation part plus (aside from it looking good on the CV), how many people can say they put on a 5k time trial for a few hundred people each Saturday using only volunteers as 'staff' that you need to manage, train, incentivise, etc. Then you have to deal with all the issues that come up on the day with the aim of having happy 'customers' who want to come back week after week.
You are basically running a franchise only not getting paid
