surprised by that, i thought marathon training would be bad for speed!
I've been doing 5 sessions a week which always includes a speed session and a tempo run. This speed work has benefitted me across all distances, new PB's at 10k and half in the last couple of months to add to the Parkrun PB. Thought there must be a parkrun thread on here somewhere
Done 2 now, at Maidstone. Lovely out and back course alongside the river with a little loop around a park at the end. first one was 19:45, second 19:23. Target is to get sub 17 before my 30th birthday in October as that was my dad's PB.

My 5k time has come right down since January from adding a long slow run onto a similar weekly structure. A most unexpected benefit! This weekend will be the first parkrun I've missed in a year. Off to the airport shortly for the Madrid half. Shame parkrun hasn't made it to Spain yet!
Had a good one this morning at my local. Wanted to go sub-20 to prove to myself that I still had some leg turnover inside me after months of marathon training - managed to come back home with 19:47! Pleased as punch but I know there's a lot of hardwork ahead this summer if I'm going to make it to sub-19 (PB is 19:18).

Also had a good one this morning. First time this year running without one of the kids and knocked 77 seconds off my old PB to record 21:43. Really pleased as I haven't been doing any speedwork but have been concentrating on extending the time I can run for as I have my first 10k in 3 weeks and a 5 miler a couple of weeks after that.I've just signed up to Parkrun and intend to do my first on Saturday (Clair Park, Haywards Heath).
I used to run quite a bit but have done barely any in the last 7 years (not a coincidence that my eldest is 7 years old) and I need to get back into it for health reasons (mental and physical!). Parkrun is such a great concept - hoping it will kickstart me.

Best way to do that is hang around for a coffee/cake/breakfast with people afterwards, great way to meet people who run and I now go running in the week with people I met through Parkrun, which means I actually do go running in the week rather than getting home and deciding I can't be bothered.Zigster said:

I signed up to parkrun and started running again (after 20 years in my case) for the same reasons (I find running just empties my head except for thoughts of pace, distance etc and so is great for handling my depression). The fact that I want to improve my parkrun time and ensure that I had no problem keeping up with my kids means that I am motivated to go out during the week. Did my first race last Monday and have another two to look forward to in the next month and a HM in October.I used to run quite a bit but have done barely any in the last 7 years (not a coincidence that my eldest is 7 years old) and I need to get back into it for health reasons (mental and physical!). Get out there and just run whatever the weather - it will make you feel better.
I've now done a couple of Parkruns and loved it. I took my two lads a couple of weeks ago and left them in the very capable hands of their grandfather whilst I ran. I was really disappointed when running round Wythenshawe Park (2 laps) not to have seen them once cheering on daddy.
I got to the finish only to find out they'd been upset about being left out and had run 1 lap of the entire course themselves dragging along a 73 year old grandad in jeans and shoes, overtaking quite a few other runners. Grandad's quite fit! So I've now signed up my 4 and 5 year old sons and we're off to do a junior run tomorrow. Can't wait.

My youngest started at 4 and has nw done 23 runs. My eldest has been doing SATS all week and when I picked him up yesterday wanted to know if he could do parkrun this morning despite the fact that he was doing a 4k race this afternoon. So this morning he did a 25 minute parkrun and this afternoon a 22 minute 4k. He struggled a little this afternoon as his 9 year old little brother did the 4k in just over 20 minutes but then he hadn't done parkrun this morning.
