Starting another run has hardly any effect on nearby ones, it just draws in new runners. We (Preston Park) are only a mile away from Hove Park, we averaged 200 a week in our first year and the average number at Hove went down by.....4
I guess there will be a saturation point but we don't seem to have reached it yet.

Happy 10th anniversary parkrun!
Well it was busy today, Bushy Park is my local and where it all started, today i was one of 1705 runners!!! Loads of visitors from other parkruns came and joined in.
4 of us from Brighton were amongst them, had a good time, PSH wearing his CBE, best I could manage was my 100 shirt! Had a chat to him and Danny and Nicola from the parkrun Show plus other people who I only knew by email and facebook so nice to put real faces to names. I expected PSH to be surrounded by loads of people all the time but he wasn't (apart from at the presentations beforehand) so it was quite easy to have a chat.

This is what i like about Parkrun, it's all so friendly, my first run 8 weeks ago i was struggling, as a new to running runner, to get round without stopping, i was about 1km from the finish and having a breather when a very kind chap encouraged me to keep going and actually ran the last km with me!

Aha, i was talking to a lovely lady at the start who had traveled from Brighton, also wearing a 100 shirt if my memory serves me.

Hi guys - saw this thread this afternoon and looked into it. I think it sounds pretty good! I've been doing a bit of road and trail running for the last couple of years and figure this sounds like a great way to start a Saturday.
I'll be at the Bolton parkrun's start this Saturday .
Thanks for the heads up!

There's apparently been some effort to discourage people from going to inaugurals, and the number of inaugurals attended due to be taken off the stats, due to some getting swamped with so many people attending. Cranleigh started up last weekend with 111 runners which sounds ok to me, but Woking started with 290 for the inaugural and 118 the next week, and Rushmoor started with 455 and dropped to 132 the next week so I can see why it would be a struggle for some of them.

Well I went along and did my first Parkrun at Leverhulme Park in Bolton this morning and really enjoyed it. A friendly bunch and pretty much perfect running conditions. I forgot my barcode , but never mind
Will be back next weekend
Well done. Will be back next weekend
However, how did you miss rule number 1 - dfyb?
At least you will get a pb next week.

- too true. was a really nice course and well organised. hard packed trails and some tarmac. a few short, but steepish hills. lots of volunteers - and all very enthusiastic. will have to remember to offer my services to do this as well from time to time. However, how did you miss rule number 1 - dfyb?

and next time, remember my barcode

I'm looking forward to the day that a kid who did a Parkrun with their mum or dad, lines up at the Olympics finals.
Paul Simon-Hewitt has done more to get Joe Public off their backsides, than Multi Billion Olympics 'legacy' ever did ...
The Olympics are a joke.Paul Simon-Hewitt has done more to get Joe Public off their backsides, than Multi Billion Olympics 'legacy' ever did ...
Norway has dropped out of the opportunity to host the Winter ones because of the demands the Olympics place on the host. It's a great scam. It leaves China and Kazakhstan as the ones left.
