Proud Dad this morning, my 9 yr old twins had their first go & made it around non-stop, one had a little walk but her sister was determined to run the whole thing, which she did. I was thinking we would be around 40 mins but both just under 36.30 ! Already talking about how they can go faster next week
A JM10 runner at Netley today went round in 18:47 for 3rd place overall. Embarrassed some very quick runners in the process. Gilhooligan said:
When I actually hit 50 parkruns, does anyone know how long it will take to get my t shirt? Am I right in saying they haven't got it all set up fully yet with the new sponsor?
It is all set up but supplies haven't started to arrive yet, you'll get an email. The shirts are being manufactured but there's quite a backlog.http://www.parkrun.com/news/2015/02/08/parkrun-mil...

Not too shabby!
That's the one. I thought he was having a joke when he said on the start line that he wanted to do it in 18 mins! Not too shabby!
No idea how he does a time like that and makes it look easy If he keeps that up I can only see him getting faster as well...

I handed in the wrong barcode! Lucky I know the results processor and he knows my wife can't run 5k in the low 20s! My first non-result in 110+ runs though.
In other parkrun news we're in the final stages for launching Swindon juniors on 10th May (dry run the week before). Had our training with our areas ambassador and volunteered for a few weeks down at Little Stoke junior parkrun to see how it all works. So much more fun to volunteer at than normal parkrun! It's amazing how much force a small child can put into a high-five too!

We always put our names down to be token sorters at the end. That way we can a +1 on a run and a volunteer on the same day
Some of the quicker runners also put themselves down as a barcode scanner as they finish before the 'rush' for the same aim.
Someone has to do those jobs so we're always happy to for people to run and volunteer, we particularly encourage a quick runner to be 3rd scanner in order to engage the quick runners with the idea of volunteering without discouraging them by missing a run and it also minimises the number of non running vols we need. Some of the quicker runners also put themselves down as a barcode scanner as they finish before the 'rush' for the same aim.
I met my co Event Director during a chat while token sorting so our event would never have started without that chance meeting, it's probably the best job to do if you want to meet people.

My local event is quite a busy one so barcode scanning tends to get filled early. Likewise with token sorting, where there's a regular group of ladies that do it over a cuppa in the cafe. As such, most of the volunteer roles don't also allow for somebody to run as well. Mind you, I really enjoy marshalling out on the course and will usually throw my name in if I'm tapering or a bit under the weather.Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
