Booked on the Great North Run, so it's time to do some training!

Am 35, I weigh about 1.5 stone more now than when I did my last half marathon!..

Have done three ParkRuns recently (South Manchester Fallowfield). Today got a 31.45. (Previous PB last year was 28.27.)
Target for this summer is under 27 mins.

I seem to be knocking 45 seconds off each run, so might just be possible!

Excellent, I'm down to 29.21 from 36 odd in four runs, will try to keep it at that pace for a couple more.

Good work! Big gains to be made in the first batch of runs!

I got a Garmin Forerunner 10 and will use that as a virtual pace maker, got it set to 6 minute 1km, then I pick up the pace for the last 400 meters. smile

New PB today. Down to 19:37 as the local parkrun switched to the flat course today.

Managed to pull a 6:16/mi out the bag for the first mile as well which is probably another PB in itself.

Nice one, Peter. More to come this season?

I managed to pull out a course PB at my home event. Only a few seconds shy of a sub-19, but I'm still over the moon where I used to be able to PB there with much more regularity before they started changing the course (increased elevation) and I started travelling specifically to flat/fast courses for PB attempts.

I think I can get another 7s off it to get under a 19:30 once it starts cooling down a bit. Anything under that is going to take a bit of training smile

They only run the flat course when the one with the hill is being used for an event in the park so it doesn't get used that often. If I am honest its pretty boring course as well as its 5 and a half laps round but it is flat...

There are two new parkruns opening nearby which are flatter. One is along a seafront promenade so no hills at all and another I have no details about but its in an area that doesn't have too many hills. Both should offer the opportunity to get a flat(er) parkrun in without waiting for the cricket pitch to be used.

23:12 today, a 1 sec PB for my home event, still 2 secs off my overall PB, but we have a new one starting next week (Hove Promenade) that's as flat as a flat thing in Flatsville, so as long as there's a week when it's not too hot or windy I'll be trying for a 22:59 there soon!

It was a bit hot this week though!

PB at my local parkrun today of 22:01 - ddin't quite beat 22, unfortunately, but knocked 1:20 off my previous PB and I've no idea how that happened. "Hilliest parkrun in Sussex", so I might pop down to that flat one in Hove to see how much quicker I could be there. smile

I guess you were at Clair which also has the disadvantage of being the narrowest in Sussex. Hove Prom should be a lot faster providing there isn't a strong wind. They are cancelled on 1 Aug and I think 29th so check their website.

I ran the test event but was taking it easy before a race so don't know how much quicker it is. One of my friends Garmins showed 1m altitude change so if it's accurate there is a slight change from 1 end to the other.

I want to go over there as well to see if I can get sub 23, PB at Preston Park is 23:12 so hopefully the lack of hills will get me a few seconds.

Recently got into park runs as I build back up to running more regularily again. My pb's before were 23.41 for a 5k and 50.02 for a 10k

Done the last 6 (sedgefield is my localish run), started at 25.11 and have gone quicker each week, down at 23.17 now, it's not a flat course so it's a good test.

So ran 23.17 on the park run yesterday and the a 48.27 10km today, doing about 25-30k a week now.

A great parkrun day for our family last Saturday.

Wife got a new PB of 26:50
12 year old new PB of 22:42
10 year old new PB of 23:36

All of them by between 1:30 and 2 minute improvemnets.

No PB for me as I had the pleasure of following the littlest one round. Told him we weren't pushing it after my 28 miles the Sunday before but once he had paced himself through half way I couldn't let him down by not keeping up.

That's right - it was Clair. I don't find the narrowness too much of a problem - the runners spread out quite quickly up the first hill.

I did Preston Park a few weeks ago and quite comfortably knocked almost 2 mins off my usual Clair time - that seems to be the difference hills make for me.

I think I'll try Hove over the summer - I'll persuade some Clair running buddies to come with me.

Christened my 50 tshirt at the weekend at Burnley, Lancashire.

81st run and 22nd location over 3 countries. Not too bad for 20 months of parkrunning.

I managed to knock off 1 min 5 secs off my PB this week, down to 23:53. Pretty happy considering I only got back in to running 2 months ago and started with a 27:53 smile

It's addictive, isn't it? I am doing six months of treadmill (forced on me because of location/weather) but it's a great feeling shaving bits off your best times. I can't wait to transfer it to my first Parkrun when I get back home in November. Once upon a time I'd have been concerned that treadmill would not translate into road running times but I've had positive results in the past so game on!!

Well done BTW! smile

Good timing means I'll be in central London in time for a Parkrun - any particular events worth visiting? Preference is flat and fast, but willing to give more unusual events a go.
