Did my first Parkrun last week after building up over a few weeks by running with the dog on a bungee lead. The dog is getting fitter but running with him is a bit of a stop start affair at the moment.

Anyway, my Parkrun goal was to get round in one go and I managed that in just over 27 mins, which I was pretty chuffed with as it was the furthest that I'd run since being at school over 30 years ago. Did another one this morning and came in just a few seconds quicker than last week, which I was mildly disappointed with as I'd felt that I was pushing harder. enjoying it though and will try again next week smile

Nice running. We had our equal highest no of runners at Panshanger today, 318.

A few seconds is far better than shaving a huge chunk off as it means you can get another PB next week biggrin

Well done. It took me a few runs to get to that time. Albeit we do have a very hilly park run

Thanks All - it's a flat course so no excuses there! Good point about the PB next week - will give it a try smile

Wet, windy and muddy Pennington Flash parkrun for me today. Felt a bit rough and under the weather but a good event as ever.
That used to be mine! I do Warrington Victoria Park now instead.

2nd PR back today, thought it was faster than last week...it was...by 2 seconds...
I've got the Manc 10k in two months, don't see me getting a PB there now. Gonna struggle to be under 55.

Good stuff. Natural improvement or have you done anything in particular to improve your times?

Lots of miles... Average about 30 miles a week, mixing the distances up all the time, have tried Fartlek but can't get it right so I often run and do speed work where I know there are strava segments.

I carry a lot less weight now too due to the running and I'll be honest that helps!

It's taken me a number of months to get into the late 25's albeit I am only on my 4th or 5th park run. Here's hoping I get get to low 20s!

Excitment this week at Preston Park, which is really my home event but I'm on temp transfer while we get Bevendean Down settled in so wasn't there.

The Run Director was just about to start the run when someone whispered to him 'Kelly Holmes is here' so she said 321 Go and then set off to run 19:39 - second lady, so one of our regulars, 18 yr old, has something to put in her scrapbook!

I went through stages of knocking just 1 or 2 seconds off a week at 22 mins and thought that was it, but kept training then the improvement started in bigger chunks again

Mind sharing what your training has looked like?

Are you on strava? I'm in the pistonheads group.

I run a fairly regular routine now of :

Monday steady 13k ish at 5min/km

Wednesday faster 10k ish at 4:45/km

Friday (sometimes) strava segment session 8 to 10k

Saturday parkrun as fast as I can run

Sunday longer run, somewhere 10 to 16k long

That's on weeks when I'm not running a race on the Sunday, be that 5k, 10k or half marathon

To start with I ran 5k Monday, Wednesday Friday and 10k Sundays, over the weeks upped those to 7k then 10k etc

Have it but don't use it. Just use my watch and map my run if I bother to take my phone.

That is quite serious amount of time you're putting in, well done. I tend to find 30-45mins adequate.

It feels like it's working, I walk the dog 3 times a day too and that's brisk too. I know I need to cover miles to be ready for my first marathon this year.

When I say adequate I mean 'enough before I get bored'! I have a half marathon later in the year and so I am going to have to up the hours once I strengthen my knee weakness

Managed 24.02 this morning which is my best by almost 2mins. The course today was flat is on average 1min faster so I am still pleased.

My first parkrun in over a year and nearly two years since my last PB, yet I somehow managed to knock 5 seconds off my PB with a time of 18:28. Feels absolutely fantastic!
