I just like the shape of the Burner superfast, but that R11 looks mental, all the adjustment you can do is way beyond what i would ever need, but they are nice to look at. Maybe one day i'll be good enough to justify one
They are lovely to use, they feel great but in my hands it just means my ball is lost 75 yards further along than normal.
I think if i got hold of a burner superfast, and a decent ball, i could lose my ball a damn sight further out than an extra 75 yards, more like 100+ yards further out rofl

I had a driver, an old snake eyes one, which kinda got broken a while back. I got my ball stuck close to a tree, and rather than move it and forfeit a shot, i said, being a smart arse, i can hit this from here. Now, i checked and rechecked the trajectory, i did my back swing to make sure i would clear the tree branches, and i stepped back and did a few practice swings, then stepped forward, swung, got the ball out and on target for where i should be on the course, and slowly realised as i completed my swing, that i hadnt checked for branches ahead of me, just as the shaft connected hard with a fairly substantial branch. Not too bad i thought, until i spotted the head lying about 8 feet away, while i still held onto the grips. Now i know why it was only £2 in the bargain bucket when i bought it

Why did i take a driver to it?? Because i had sliced the fecking thing off the tee, and didnt want to take 4 iron shots to get out to where i should have been in the first place. I was immensely grumpy afterwards, and a stty dunlop powermax(thats a laugh) 3 wood, just doesnt work for me.

Oh well, you live and learn eh?? From now on, my main focus will be on getting my swing right, so i hit the ball straight, or straighter than i used to, then i will worry about distance

I would recommend buying a decent set of clubs. I used to have a cheap set of Slazenger clubs and my game really wasn't going anywhee. I bought a set of Taylormade Burner 2.0 irons and on the first round noticed the difference. The are easier to hit, fly the ball further and are much lighter (I carry my clubs). I reckon I get 10 - 15 yards more for each iron. The hardest part was re-learning the club I needed for each shot.

As and when i can afford it, i intend to upgrade the clubs, and change to some decent golf balls as they can make a difference too, however, at the standard i am right now, i would class myself as a novice beginner, and so what i have at the minute is about right

Keep in mind that the Burner 2.0s have less loft and are longer than irons traditionally are. This is an annoying trend that manufacturers have adopted in order to make people think they're hitting the ball longer and to help them sell more 'gap' wedges at the top end of the set. My 5iron for example has the same loft (27*) as a Burner 2.0 6 iron so if I hit a Burner 2.0 6 iron I would indeed expect it to go 10-15 yards further than my own 6iron. Really the numbers at the bottom of the clubs have become meaningless and they should all just put the lofts at the bottom instead then we'd know where we really stood.

Aside from all that, congratulations on the irons, I'm sure they are a really nice club to use.

I may have to venture out onto the course tomorrow, and practice the cure for the slice, it's either that, or go to the range and try it out

7th (I think) round in as many weeks since I started again.

Shot 7 over after 14 holes (a handy finishing point at my club), handicap is 11.

Very pleased and I chipped in for birdie too!

I've got a slice so bad that I can clear 3 fairways from the tee.

I read the advice on here - especially the 'face right, not left to stop the slice' bit - put it into practice on Thursday and cured it in one round.

It's not perfect, sometimes I hook it off of the tee now - that's a first - but it just needs fine tuning.

Good luck.

For those of us who slice the ball, next time you go to the range, if they have those rubber pratice tees, get two, place one a couple of inches in front of the other, then when you swing, try to swing your club over the second tee. Then try it with golf balls and see the difference. Not so easy to replicate on the course though

Well, that was a success of sorts. Still bending the ball to the right, but i think that was more weather related, as one pitched shot got caught in the wind, and bent way left into a water hazard. However, that was the only ball i lost, so using the two tee approach does work, much happy

Been watching the Walkers cup golf on TV and there's a query I have. Why do they not putt out the ball when it's close to the hole ( presumably it's because it's assumed they'd get it in...but nothing is 100% sure in a sport).

I was wondering that too.

I need to get myself back to the range. I haven't swung a club for weeks and I was bad back then!

The reason they don't always put out is because it is match play.

If their partner has already got the ball down in four and they miss the put to match it then they just pick the ball up because they can't match or beat the score their partner has just got. The partner wins the hole.

Yep, bigbubba is correct. The Walker cup, the Ryder Cup, and i think the Vivendi trophy and the presidents cup, are all matchplay tournaments
