Which at this point looks like genius, but (if we get to) the fourth innings when England need regular wickets on a pitch taking spin...

All Ifs and Salman's at this moment. Agree though, a 50 from Morgan here will be priceless...(which is the kiss of death, infact he is probably already walking back to the pavillion as I am typing this)

Good as Ajmal is, we've made him look exceptional.

England will still win this test. They are a better side so will win out over 4 innings.

But that isnt how cricket works though, esp Test cricket and esp again if you want to win away against the Subbies. Australia learnt this over 15 yrs, that you dont change and try to work with the strengths out there because all you do is play to *their* strengths while negating yours. Right now England's strength is their long game ability and the seam bowling attack. Swann presents an ever reliable threat from one end, so there is no relief there and he is attacking, whilst at the other end you get a constant rotation of English fast bowlers attacking you relentlessly, harrying, bullying and tying you down.

England dont need to take regular 4th innings wickets either, they only need to do that if they are trying to force victory and England dont need to try and force victory for this series. Right now, you dont even think about what you *might* need on a 5th day wicket, you concentrate on the first 3 days and then trust the attack you have to do the job anyway. England need to regroup, the bowling unit to understand they need to work hard to contain Pakistan to around 200. Thats all they want to be thinking of.

You keep doing this Garg, wanting England to change things and attacking all the time, applying ODI and T20 thinking to Tests. It doesnt work. Settled and secure wins Test series, reckless changing and attacking might win a match, but also loses them and always looses the series.

What a bonkers fielding review of a not-out LBW decision - the ball pitched about a yard outside leg!

Its a good rebuilding job. If England can post 180, then you have a halfway competitive score. Anderson can block and Guns can swing the bat, so if Prior and Swann can add another 20, then there is some licence to counter attack in the tail. If England can make a stretch target of 200 then Pakistan are going to pished off. This track isnt doing *that* much and if you take a big stride and swing the bat style then you may well frustrate the classy spinner who is trying to get you out properly. You will be got, but with a spot of luck not before you have put 15 on the board. Fifteen each from Guns and Jimmy at the tail of this innings after Swann and Prior have finished will be invaluable.

These are not attacking pitches, they are hang in for 3.5 days and then see where the match lies. These are patience pitches, hang in, apply pressure and see who has the better "closers" to either see day 5 out or apply extra pressure and watch a side give you the match. Blatent aggression and forceful attacking isnt the way for this series.

We are indeed on the brink of garnering some respectability here. Outstanding work from Swann.

Well, 192 and 7 wickets for Ajmal. Time will tell if we've dropped a bk not having Monty in.

192 more than enough

12 overs or so tonight. England will snare 3 or 4.
