The Bell is certainly tolling... thing is, who do we take to South Africa?

Can't really go in with a new 2 and 3 can we?

Well we need 238, with effectively 7 wickets, not sure Stokes will bat. I guess he might defend an end to prevent a loss.

I wonder now about Bell and his future in this team. It a tour to South Africa next, but he just doesn't seem to be the player at the moment.

The team is made up of adequate, we need a couple of world class.

If only we had a world class batsman with thousands of test runs champing at the bit to represent England eh? If only.

They will take Bell to SA as their is no-one else. We need to bed in a number 2 asap, then hope we can at least drag a couple of runs from Bell for the series.

It's not surprising that Mo didn't work out as opener, what is surprising is that it was tried. You'd have more success bringing Freddie out of retirement.

Still think Eng will win this.

Can't believe we lost the Ashes to this bunch of chumps though!! This dismal Eng performance makes our inability to beat you look even worse than it was!!

But are they a happy dressing room though?

No place for entertainment in the ECBs vision of Cricket

If only it was...did nothing to be out there in the first place and has done nothing much of note now in nigh on 20 innings.

You are Piers Morgan AICMFP.

Yesterday's news. The team needs to try and move forwards, not backwards. Besides, we won this year's bigger series without him...if I never hear the whinging arse or his entourage (especially Piers) again it'll be too soon.

A TMS stat has this as Eng 18th collapse in 25 test matches . That and the dire spin bowling we have seen have been the low points. We are still no closer to a decent opener nor spin option. I would go with Hales and Tredwell at least he can bowl an over without it containing 2 full tosses and a long hop. England spinners combined have gone at 4 an over and averaged 60.
They have made Malik look like Warne he bowls part time and he has 10 wkts at 24. I think the ECB need to look at the pitches we are producing.

I think Bell will go to SA but the pressure he must be feeling will be intense. This year he has 9 scores of either 1 or 0. The last couple of years he has been very average and this time next year he will be gone.

On the spin question. How many four day matches are there in the county championship. Most of them are played in May or June. The pitches aren't spinning, the captains won't bowl them and at many grounds the wickets are just set up to swing/seam.

I don't think there is an easy solution.

Anyway, HR may have lost his 128 AO but my 173 is looking more plausible. Johnfm has once again exposed his total lack of cricket knowledge by predicting we would win by six wickets wink

I think I've been too defeatist. We only need a Broad century and we're right back in this.

You know I really didn't see that coming.

Anyway, we only need a Stokes one-armed century and we're right back in this. Come on England! party

it was always going to be difficult on that track on day 5 - it was going sideways on day one.

Pakistan have played to the conditions and we've been a bit unlucky with the toss and with stokes in this match. still no excuse whatsoever for yet another collapse.

if we lose this we drop to 6th in teh world test rankings for a team which if we recall just won the ashes convincingly...
