Anyone do London this weekend?
Hi Rich, I did and managed to take off over 23 mins from last years time! Was hoping to go faster but never thought I could go that much faster. Scores on the doors were swim 32:12 bike 235th fastest in 1:01:50 and run of 40:33 which is only just shy of my 10k pb! Overall 02:20:22 cloud9

Feel bks today though, still it's a small price to pay.

I did London yesterday as my Olympic debut. Managed it in 2.27 which I'm chuffed with considering I was aiming for anything under 3 hours!

Swim was 31 mins
Bike was 1.06 (Was aiming for around 1.20, having never done a 25 mile TT before I was basing this on the last 10m TT I did a few weeks ago, albeit in the hilly west country and on dead legs)
Run was just sub 44 (Again chuffed with, was aiming for 55ish but my legs felt great after the bike)

It was a nice fast course, marshalls could've been nicer but then again this was London. My bike leg started as a nightmare - my rear derailer decided to go out of alignment and the gears wouldn't engage, meaning I had to jump off and kick it a bit (seemed to fix it temporarily!), then my bottle fell out on a pothole so I had to stop and get it.

A pleasing way to do my first Oly though

Well done Cos!

I've had some vacation time since the disappointment of IMUK. I may have needed it, but I feel horrific now!

Too much eating and drinking and I'm sleeping horribly and feeling lethargic all the time. Not to mention just feeling unfocused at work and just generally crap.

Anyone else found the same when winding down after a race?

I'm in Saudi just now with work, but the bike is getting the dust thrown off it this weekend! Working a training plan to get back into it ASAP. It's amazing the health benefits you lose once not working the body and mind!

Next week I'm in Norway and the bike is coming too. Looking forward to escaping the heat and chaos on the roads of Abu Dhabi for some European riding again smile

I've felt a bit down after IMUK, I did well and felt great just after the finish but got home and my medal and finisher t shirt are still in the bag I put them in after Bolton. hehe

I've gone from thinking i'm not doing another to convincing myself I can shave off at least half an hour and am looking for a faster course abroad for possibly next year!

Everyone tells me how amazing it was but I can't help but feel it was a bit pointless. I'm spending the next few months just riding around randomly on my mountain bike for fun and doing some short fast stuff like park runs, instead of all the Z2 work that was in my endless Don bloody Fink be iron fit plan.

10 days out from London I got a heavy cold. Did no training up until 3 days before. The couple of short runs and swim I'd managed to get in last minute had all been Ok give or take.

Felt OK on the startline. 28min swim suggested otherwise. Expected 25-6. (as per Windsor) About 3-4K into the bike realised it wasn't going to be a good day. Just felt like I was working hard for the speed. Think we've all been there. Did 1.06 on the short Westminster loop. It's only 36-7K not the full 40k. And a 46min 10k just said it all really. Reports say either overlong or under. Anyone Garmin it?

Such is life still went sub 2h30 but wanted a good 10mins faster since it's generally a short course.

On the positives, Steve Trew called my name. (Lege!) The Erdinger was quite nice actually so I'll buy in the future.

I've done this event 5 times now. It was my first ever tri in 2010. Thinking about it 2 days on there's too many things that are starting to bug me about this event. Main ones being overcrowding, blatent drafting ignored and despite only being about 10 miles away from where I live. Logistically 2.5 hours to get home is a ball ache! It's easier to get back from Blenheim to South London!

Although I'm seriously considering going full IM next year I was expecting to do this again if the dates didn't clash. As it stands I probably wouldn't do it next year.

I've felt great since IMUK, pretty much slept all day and night Tuesday through to Thursday morning then was back out on the bike most days. Done my first longish run since which was 7.5 miles and felt really good. Keen to crack on now and get some decent run miles in.

I wouldn't honestly bother with the Z2 fink stuff in my opinion its not the best use of time. I trained to pretty much how I felt this year after doing fink last year. Trained super hard when I wanted to, rode to decent power on long rides, and still did some steady long runs, but hit way more intensity this year. Came out with a 40 min IM pb so it can't all be bad. Also uninjured at all this year compared to 3 injuries doing fink the year before.

Perhaps you got a PB as you'd done the IM the year before and if you'd followed the fink plan again, you would have got an even bigger PB? Most guys I know followed the fink plan and were finishing in 11:15 - 11:30.

It is a v boring and repetitive plan though and to me, felt a bit light on the bike. I only had one light injury in training and that was after having a few days off ill, went straight into the full distance long run and bike instead of reducing the time after having days off. I enjoyed that the plan focused on time rather than distance. So often I ran for a half hour or whatever in one direction and suddenly saw I was half way through and turned around and came home.

Great report by the way, reading it brought me right back. hehe

Great report Gav ! I figured something had gone pretty wrong looking at the bike spilts - but even so that's still a hell of a time, cracking marathon time as well. Can't beleive you've signed up for another year of punishment !! IM Zurich is supposed to be a fab race - on a par with Austria according to a mate who has done both. Anyway enjoy the rest of the summer hols beer

As for me ? is it possible to 'blag' an IM finish - guess i'll find out in 35 days. My swim is ok, (4.2k OW swim in 1h 40m 3 weeks ago) but if there is a stong tide it could be a real struggle, i've yet to ride more than 56 miles in training (oops !) & managed to bruise my heel, probably walking barefeet on gravel at said OW swim & haven't run in three weeks (with heel still v.sore). Suffice to say whatever the outcome in Weymouth, it will by my last tilt at IM distance (which is exactly what I said before Austria last year laugh)

Thanks Brendan!

I'm now starting to look forward to IM Switzerland after the last couple of days of thinking "what have I done?"!!!

35 days - tons of time! Hope the heel gets better soon.
One of my team mates hadn't ever ridden more than 56 miles and ended up getting knocked off his bike by a caravan during the race (his first ever IM distance) and he still finished, you've got tons more experience! Get out there and rock it!!! beer

Outlaw Half 2015 entered, anyone else? It's my first middle distance, really looking forward to it and seeing if it'll keep me motivated through Winter.

Also in for 2015, entered on a whim following the email popping into my inbox yesterday. Will be my 3rd in as many years. Will focus on this as my A race for the year, with another half maybe. Save the full IMs for 2015, maybe crack back on with one on the continent in 2016.

Was planning to do the Cotswold Classic Half Iron at the end of the month, but damaged a rib on holiday so cant swim at the moment. Signed up for another half marathon in Sept instead to keep me busy.

More importantly.... Just a few more weeks until entry for the Outlaw (full) opens. Never done a full ironman so cant wait to sign up and see what kind of hellish training plan I can come up with....smile

Great blogs Gav and Edd. Great efforts and room for improvement for next season.

Interesting thoughts on Outlaw and the bike route, kinda glad that I went for IM UK now as I certainly don't think I need help making my go slower.

Anyone else doing Bolton next year?

Well after a month "off" i have a sprint this weekend, decided next year i'm going to do another IM - and do it under 11 hours - from 12.27 at my first go its a big ask but I have a year - and i know where the improvement will come from.

This being PH i've gone about starting the long journey the right way and ordered a new bike - 2015 Cevelo P2 will be here at the end of the Month - ready for a winter bolted to my turbo......

Best of luck esuuv, that's still very good for your first time.

Upload some photos of the new speed machine when you you get it.
