Right. Time to join in.
I'm committed now; I've stopped procrastinating and have entered Ironman Wales 2015.
I dislike running, and have never so much as sat on a road bike. Oh dear.
Excellent work! You've got plenty of time to sort your weaknesses out though and as you're aware, Wales is an epic race - albeit in a masochistic sense, you're in for an absolute treat!I'm committed now; I've stopped procrastinating and have entered Ironman Wales 2015.

Look forward to your training updates!

Anyone fancy going for a 1900m swim on 31st May at the Nottingham water sports centre? Thinking of changing my Outlaw half entry and doing it as a relay instead.
Decided I'm going to concentrate on just cycling this year, and have a friend who is keen on doing the run part.
That may be perfect timing for my girlfriend's brother to give it a crack - we should have his swimming up to a reasonable standard by then.Decided I'm going to concentrate on just cycling this year, and have a friend who is keen on doing the run part.
If he doesn't fancy it, I'll put myself forward though - nothing better than a poor start for encouraging a fast bike split

This is one length of the Notts pool, right? ;-)Decided I'm going to concentrate on just cycling this year, and have a friend who is keen on doing the run part.
I could be up for that. It's in between Barcelona and Staffs 70.3, so the timing works. Will run it past the bosses (wife and coach - as life goes on, I slip further and further down the pecking order).

Still, I need a challenge. I'm local, so am well aware of the difficult course and incredible atmosphere. It had to be Tenby!
You won't be disappointed!! I did it in 2013, and wrote a report earlier in this thread. I'll see if I can find it (disclaimer: I'm not particularly literate or entertaining, but hopefully you can garner something from it). Ooh we've got a battle for it!? Dangerous was first so I guess he has first refusal at the moment. Only just beginning to think about it, so still need to get in touch with the organisers, but having read the site it just involves an email and a £20 admin fee. I could be up for that. I did it in 5:13 last year with a 33min swim, 2:36 bike and a 1:58 run. My mate should be good for a 1:30 half and I'd hope to go 2:25ish so with a decent swim we'd be looking at a reasonable time.

Cheers all!
I'll be sure to find up a copy.
I'm also visiting a local bike shop this week to look/try/deposit on a winter training road bike. I've done a few bits and pieces but will get much more structured and disciplined in January. It begins!

If you've already got a road bike you may want to think about getting a turbo trainer rather than a Winter hack (if you haven't already got one!). I know the Velominati rules reckon you're awesome if you cycle outdoors in Winter but I'm of the opinion you can get a much better (and much safer) training session indoors using a turbo trainer, trainer road.com and the Sufferfest videos than sliding about on icy roads in poor conditions. Maybe I'm just a big wuss but I see nothing appealing about cycling up here through sleet, snow and trying to avoid drivers who can't be chewed to defrost their windows! Enjoy the training!

Take your lawn-mower! I could have run through this (some folks did!) faster than I grappled through it last year!!! Stick to the middle to avoid the worst of the weeds and away from the shallow bank - I've walked through puddles up here that were deeper I could be up for that. Right, well I am cleared to do it if you need me. Reckon with some luck avoiding the melee I could go close to 30min flat (famous last words and all that!). Totally agree with this - safer, warmer and in a controlled environment. You'll train more, with greater consistency and reap the benefits in the Spring when it is actually pleasant to get out there! If you've already got a road bike you may want to think about getting a turbo trainer rather than a Winter hack (if you haven't already got one!). Just posted in the running thread mentioning a new piece of kit I got over Christmas - an LED headtorch and what a wicked piece of kit. Not very expensive (iro 20 quid or so) and as I mentioned there, an absolute game changer for winter run training . . . no more excuses for dipping out on an early morning/evening winter run now (unfortunately)!!
Definitely recommended if anyone fancies gaining some extra hours to burn off some christmas timber

Ok, I'll enquire as to whats needed to swap the entry over to a team one and get the ball rolling. No names needed just yet, but will keep you posted
No worries So, how is everyone's post Xmas training going?
Did a run on Sat along the Thames - LSD - with the emphasis on the L - came in at 21.2k, which was a surprise.
Not very enjoyable three hours out on the bike yesterday in properly cold weather. Toe covers weren't nearly good enough to stop my toes solidifying.
And then the pool today for what turned into a really horrible speed set. Five days off and I felt like I'd lost all the form and fitness in the water I had built. Brilliant!
I found myself wondering how on earth I am going toget through the next two months. I hate exercising in the cold. Really really hate it.

I'm not doing too bad, just concentrating on a bit of S&C work in the gym and running at the mo'. Managing about 50 - 80k a week (for the last 4 weeks anyway) and hopefully can keep that up until my marathon at the beginning of April. Haven't ventured on to the bike or into the pool this year, but am getting my girlfriend's brother some swim lessons at the end of the month/February for his Christmas pressie and I may well have to crash those myself!!!Gotta say you're more than a bit brave getting out in the Baltic conditions on your bike - turbo only for me at this time of the year!! Will probably get back on my turbo in a couple of weeks, but haven't taken my bike out of its bag since Mallorca!!

as requested - its not finished yet, the spacers are eventually going to come out under the bars - but are there so i can leave the steerer longer while I check it all works. its also not fitted at all so ignore the saddle height / position and the rather long extensions !!
The blue bits were originally red - I'm very colour blind and just don't do red, I used 3M film like you would use to wrap a car and a lot of swear words.......i got the frame back in September / October but the bars it came with were faulty and had to be changed 3T took a long time to send the replacements.
Stickers on the wheels are from a guy on Ebay - Zipp sell coloured ones in the US but not here and the shipping costs were the same as the stickers - the ones from ebay are just as good as the white ones I took off (with a hair dryer and a lot more swearing) and i can get cheap replacements if i damage one.
Spec - 2014 P5-6, Zipp 60 wheels, 3T Aduro bars, Magura RT8 hydraulic brakes, Full Ultegra di2 apart from the shifters (because they don't do ultegra TT di2 shifters). Theres a little pocket in the frame thats designed to hold the original di2 battery - i used the seatpost battery (wedged in the seat post strangely) and have put all the electronics in the little cubby hole remaining - the junction box for the di2 (so you have to take the back wheel off to charge it /change settings) and the wireless box so the di2 sends battery data and gear position to my Garmin 810. Apart from the little cable to each derailleur there are zero exposed cables - its very well designed in this regard, although you do need 5 arms and the hands of a 3 year old to thread things through sometimes.
I have a stages power meter which I may fit but thats on my road bike for now - will switch it over later in the year when i'm actually racing on this.

Happy New Year folks!
I'm now in week 10 out of the 10 week Sufferfest intermediate cycle plan. I'm training up for an attempt on the Knight of Sufferlandria challenge (10 Sufferfest videos back to back in one session) on Sunday 8th February which should be *cough* fun
After that, it's a three 100+ mile sportives (Drumlanrig on 02/05/15, Bethany challenge 06/06/15 and Tour of the Borders on 09/08/15).
Triathlons this year: LochLoMan 1/2 IM on 17/05/15 (that will be COLD!) and the A-race is IM Switzerland on 19th July.
I've changed my strategy a bit this year, going to do more HIT training (Sufferfest vids) during the week, stick with 2 swims (one club session and one steady long session), 1 long run and 1 long bike at the weekend... and more rest than last year! Oh, and maybe remember to put my race belt on

I know what you mean about cabling. My P3 was a pig to cable.
