I'm planning to do the KoS challenge as part of my training next year. I think i've decided not to do Ironman Wales next eyar now and push it back 12 months. Partly because I can't afford to pay for it this year and I want to see how i go at the Long Course Weekend 2016.

Just got back from a few days in Tenby having a course recce. Stupidly missed out on the long course weekend as that looked amazing.
Still have two months to go until IM Wales so perfect timing for looking at the course. Managed the bike course in a shade under 7 hours which was my first ever century ride.
Also did one loop of the run course, that contained a lot more climbing than anticipated.

Up until this point I had been worried about the bike but I think my training has been spot on for that. Need to include a lot more hill work in my run sessions.

Feel like I'm always on the edge of injury with run training still, having come back from 2 months off due to ITB issues back in January.

Looking forward to getting my life back now.

Well, it's taper week. Not sure how that happened! Will be at the start line of IM Switzerland on Sunday. Training on the bike and the run has gone pretty well this year, managed to complete the Knight of Sufferlandria challenge in February and really enjoying my running at present. Swimming has been a disaster zone - either tore my rotator cuff (physio's diagnosis) or impinged the bursa (surgeon's diagnosis) 14 weeks ago and haven't been able to swim since. I'm hoping that Zurich will be a wetsuit swim but the water temp is perilously close to 24.5C. To be honest, I'm hoping just to get round the swim and then I'll start my race on the bike and run. Anyone else going over to Zurich? If do, Good Luck and hope to see you there - I'll be number 1506 biggrin

Best of luck to IM UK entrants this weekend too beer
I can't beleive it's 2 years since we trundled around Austria, hope the journey is better this time Gav !! Fingers crossed for a wetsuit swim & hope you have a great race. Will be keeping an eye on the tracker on Sunday beer

Anyone doing IMUK on Sunday??

I'm volunteering/spectacting at various points throughout the day.

Let me know your numbers and names and I'll keep an eye out for you. You'll get an extra PH cheer.

Good luck everyone.

I'll also be rocking my PH cycle jersey, assuming I get through the swim in one piece. #1513, getting in the way of the sweep-up van but hopefully enjoying myself.

Thanks in advance for volunteering, always appreciated thumbup

Copenhagen is a great race, the swim can be a little cold, my parents spotted someone being pulled out of the water "the colour of a smurf" when I did it (2011) Bike ride is pretty flat & a well supported city centre run, you'll have a blast. Good luck to all this weekend !!

Hey DrGav, don't worry whether it's a wetsuit swim or not - I was thinking the same about the swim in Mallorca last year and when it came to it (water temp 26.5°C I think) wetsuits weren't in any way an option. Hardly noticed the difference to be honest and it made quite a pleasant difference to be swimming in my trisuit! That being said I darn near had my lights punched out for at least 3k, so no change there biggrin

Get the swim done and then have a fab race! I'll be checking the IM tracker on Sunday!

Just got back from a training camp family holiday in Mallorca - had some great rides in the Tramantura mountains (epic cycling over there) and now need to seriously knuckle down for my Barcelona prep. Fingers crossed I may just be able to be race fit by October! Work has calmed down a touch so I may be able to post a bit more on here now as well thumbup

Good luck to all IMUK participants on Sunday as well - bigandclever I'll be checking your number too biggrin

Best of luck IMUK folk! I'm off out later for my first go on my TT bike. 5 weekends training before my first half iron distance race (Cotswold Classic) so see if I can acclimatize to it. I can do 90km on my road bike no trouble so should be ok I hope as I've just had a bike fit done and a new ISM Adamo saddle put on (the Planet X saddle would have been awful!!!).

I did the long course weekend, or at least the full swim, 112 bike and then the Half marathon, it was fantastic. The swim was quite tough, a fair few have said it was long; I recorded 1:07, which put me about 60th. A similar position to last year, although a far slower time.

Slightly damp start to the bike, then cleared to be a lovely day. I'd only done rides of about 75 miles, and the jump to 112 concerned me slightly, but I'd cycled the course often and so I took it steady (apart from being an idiot on the first lap King of the Hill section) and finished in 7:10. Legs didn't feel too bad, either.

Again, I didn't push the run, but finished the half in 2:02. Perfectly happy with those given the interrupted training over the last few weeks, and I've recovered fairly quickly.

I've now entered the Ocean Lava half in Fishguard in two weeks. A little more competition practice! smile

Good luck to anyone doing IMUK!

Bit late now, but good luck to everyone at IMUK today....

I'm doing the Outlaw next Sunday, did my final "proper" session earlier. Already got butterflies. I've trained reasonably well so I should be ok, but the doubts are still there for some reason.

Maybe sitting watching the Hamburg Relays isn't really helping take my mind off it.

biglaugh That wouldn't definitely earn a few man points!! I checked earlier on though and it said he DNF'd on the bike??? confused

Checked DrGav's progress and looks like he had a mighty tough time in the swim - his shoulder must have been been giving him some serious grief by the looks of things . . . out on the run as I speak though, so fingers crossed it hasn't entirely ruined his day . . .

Yeah looks like didn't make the second split on the bike? Hopefully not a crash.

its such a long day, last year my family went back to bed after T1 then got up and had a drive to Blackpool before T2. About now they were heading down to the finishers chute for the pretzels and medals. hehe
