Oh well, seems churlish to be disappointed that all the Tri events up to the middle of summer are postponed. People are losing their lives right now, and that’s a sobering thought.
Yeah, it does really. It's hard not be be just a bit disappointed though. In my case, IM Lanzarote was supposed to be 7 weeks away now - I couldn't wait to get out there and got myself in bangin' shape too! Cancelled now though, so 2021 it's going to have to be - far more important things going on in the world right now.

In other irrelevant news, just before it all kicked off I retired my 15 year old Giant TCR race bike to being a permanent Tacx Neo mule and taken the plunge on a new (well, new to me) set of wheels - behold!:-

I haven't had the opportunity to ride it properly yet, but it's league's ahead of what I'm used to riding, so very much looking forward to see what I can do on it!! biggrin

I've taken a couple of weeks off training - it doesn't seem quite right to be doing 20k runs or 100k rides outside just now - I'm lucky to have an indoor setup in my office, so am going to sit down, work out a decent plan with a BIG base period and do all my training indoors until this thing hopefully sorts itself out - got a whole year and a bit to play with now!!! biggrin

Woo, lovely..! That looks ace. It will be interesting to see what improvements you see on your local Strava segments first time out. What size tyres will you run on those wheels?
It really is a lovely put together thing - it'll be the first time for me on Q Rings as well, so interesting to see if they make a noticeable difference.

It's got 25's on there at the moment, so I'll probably stick with those.

You've got me looking at endless pools now! They're not cheap are they??!!! If anyone knows anything about them or has any recommendations, I'm all earssmile

I'd say most people would be better doing a half, relatively you could probably do a more impressive time given most people do not have the time to train properly for 3 sports. What's the point in doing an Ironman in a st time because you have 10 hours a week to train when you could actually do a decent half?

Given most people are capable of riding a century/running a marathon surely the impressive bit is doing it all quickly vs doing it at all?
Maybe because even completing 140.6 in any time is a huge achievement beyond the comprehension of 99% of the population?
I agree. Most people, given reasonable time to prepare for it are capable of swimming 3,8km. Similarly cycling 180km. Same goes for a marathon. Each discipline has its own challenges and not everyone are suited to them, but being focused on a sole challenge makes the preparation significantly easier.

An IM race is very different. Putting those three together makes it a totally different proposition training wise and when deciding to participate in one, you really have to decide whether you want to compete or complete.

There's no such thing as a st finishing time. I genuinely respect everyone out there, whatever their motivation.

Your 1, 2, 3 for Kona 2022:-

1. Gustav Iden
2. Sam Laidlow
3. Kristian Blummenfelt

Separated by just 3 minutes! Nice to see a 5th place for Joe Skipper as well.

Laidlow's put down a bike split of 4:04:36 and Iden ran a 2:36:15 yikes incredible.

I'll definitely be entering the Norseman ballot (for the 8th time) - I'm prepared for the disappointment that occurs after the draw (the YouTube livestream is actually brilliant though), so if I'm not successful (again!), I'll be picking another full distance race for 2023 now that most of the world has regained a little bit of sanity wrt covid.

Love to nab a Norseman place though - that'd be absolutely amazing. biggrin

Thinking of coming out of retirement to tackle my old nemesis, IM Lanza.
You definitely want to challenge yourself with that one It is an epic experience.

A unique course, incredible support from the locals and you won't blag it. It is a proper hard day out.

Getting goosebumps thinking about it. I fancy a return myself.biggrin
