You might like this video IRONMAN UK 2015: Bolton - Mega Montage Video

My claim to fame is that I'm in it .... having a good old time on the bike, in between the shot of the bacon and sausage grill and the, er, shot of the bacon and sausage grill laugh

I've never done the relay but have done London a few times - as its so huge there are people in / out of transition constantly - so I cant see why you can't get changed and leave, not like a little race where they don't let you take stuff from transition until everyone has done T2.
Thanks, we're in an earlier wave than I was first told, so should be able to see the bike leg before clearing off.

So how did everyone do, who took part in London Triathlon over the weekend?

It was my first Olympic distance, having only ever done a 300m/21km/4km before.
Very impressed with the organisation, and did much better on the swim than I expected! 2:55:17 total, which am chuffed with as wanted to get under 3 hours.
34:05 - 1:24:21 - 50:30

I tried to start the cycle with my shoes already clipped in, as had done some practise like this, and was worried about running in my cleats on the slippery Excel floor........... well in the nerves and excitement, I had clipped my left shoe into the right pedal and right into left. eek Only realised after a minute of struggling to close the Velcro furiousidea
Oh well!

How'd you all do?

I did 2.18 and a bit - i have Copenhagen in 2 weeks so wasn't killing myself but all went pretty well, i don't like the changes to the bike course - hammering along the highway down to tower bridge was much faster than fiddling round canary wharf.

Good work gents, did my swim leg on Saturday in 37.36, probably stopped 10 times to empty my goggles & got that pissed off with them I chucked them as I rounded that last turn. Was hoping for under 35, but hey ho.

I was asked to do the bike leg as part of a relay on the Saturday. It was pretty dangerous to say the least in terms of slow moving riders and crashes. I spent most of it asking people to move/stay left. I think we maanged 9th overall, and I managed fastest bike split overall so had to be happy with that. Glad I didn't take the TT bike as well, would barely have been safe to touch the extensions except on the section out toward Blackwall.

Great work!
Was there not enough room for overtaking? I thought the lanes were pretty wide to get past people on the cycle.

I'v enot done it before, I guess a ride down to Tower Bridge would have been nice and scenic. It certainly wasn't too visually impressive this year, but I guess they're limited by road closures etc.

Speed differential is the issue, I did it a few years back, and like Tom found it a bit sketchy as some people were weaving and going much slower.

Yeah barely room for 2 or 3 riders wide at certain points, as the course wound its way through some of the roundabouts and traffic lights. As Rob mentions, you're approaching some riders doing about 15mph more than they are, so its always going to be dodgy. Its a mass participation event really, much the same as something like Ride London. I think the average competitor is just there to get round, and probably hasn't done much like before, so the last thing they're thinking about is someone faster wanting room to come through.

A fair point.
I thought I was just there to get around, but certainly seemed much more savvy and capable than a lot of the people there! It surprised me, but was quite a nice feeling at the same time. But also I had people flying past me who probably looked like a lazy Sunday driver in their eyes biggrin

Everyone was very friendly though

I have my first '70.3' distance this coming Sunday at the Cotswold Classic. I booked it straight after the last event having just bought a bike and not tried swimming for a very long time. Can't believe it's finally here and I even believe I can finish it under 6 hours if injury and mechanical issues allow! I'm actually more concerned with 2016 now. To try Ironman Wales or wait another year? Also want to do the Knights of Sufferlandria challenge.

Go for it! If you're doing a 70.3 now you'll certainly be able to do IM Wales next year. Good Luck this Sunday - smash it!!!

Excellent - someone else mad enough to go for the KoS wobble I found it harder than my first IronMan! Loved every gruelling minute of it (once I'd finished) - and you get cool decals for your bike too wink

I well believe it. The shortest route as far as i can see puts you on the bike for 10 hours and i find like for like time on the turbo trainer a little tougher on the behind. As things stand i havent done more than a single Sufferfest video so a 'little' way to go. We're talking about doing it for Sport Relief in March. I'll need to be in good shape by then to run my first marathon (Brighton) in April. That's one of two fixed events for 2016. The other is the Long Course Weekend.

Long Course Weekend in Tenby? Great event.

Copenhagen Ironman on Sunday - flights in a few hours, bike got shipped on Monday - guess I just need to get it done now - have watched the bike course on youtube and it seems very flat so mechanicals aside should be fast - fingers crossed.

Good luck, great city & great race. The bike is very flat (a few rolling hills on the dual carriageway on the run back to Copenhagen) & should be quick, could be hard work if windy though as there is nowhere to shelter. Massive support on the run course, the closest I ever came to 'enjoying' the marathon was here !

That's the one. I gathere they are starting a Lanza event from next year (December?) too though.

Some chap in the changing rooms at work was talking about his IM Barcelona miscalculation the other day. He'd entered assuming it was flat and fast but also still had a 17 hour time limit. Apparently it's 14 hours and his solo event PBs combined for the three distances total more than that frown

According to the website race finish is 00.30, so with the last swim wave going off at 08.50 he still has minimum 15h 40m
