Yes, I saw that on the site. I thought those times were for the individual sections or does it mean you have 8hrs and 30min to complete the entire thing? Sorry if I'm being a bit dippy.
Whole thing I think. A friend of mine did it this year - his main issue was the run as it is lumpy and x-country but also on narrow paths, so overtaking is difficult as you have to step off the path to do it.

Yup, that 8hr 30m is for the whole thing, but the other times are strict cut-offs, ie, if you get out of the water in 1hr 11m, that will be the end of your race.

The times are cumulative, so if you swim/bike in 5hr 31m, you won't be allowed to start the run.

OK, thanks for the clarity on that. I may have a look at alternative HIs then. I know my swim is good for 38 minutes or less and the bike should be 3h50 ish. However, I wasn't aware that the run was cross country/single track stuff. I'm not a big fan of cross country running. I much prefer tarmac.

The Miami one is starting to look quite appealing!

Noob alert! Noob alert!

Ok, so I've just been checking my start times etc for my first sprint event tomorrow and I noticed that I've been given a 'cap' colour... so, question is....do I need to provide the swimming cap? confused

....or have I just made a schoolboy comedy error that will haunt me for ever?! wobblebiggrin

hehe

Don't worry - they will provide the cap - just different colours for different waves of competitors, that's all.

Best of luck!

Don't panic. You'll be supplied with a cap. Everyone in your swim lane will have a different colour which helps the timekeeper count your laps

Excellent, thanks loads!

I realised the reason behind the colours....I was just thinking "glad my cap is to be black, as I've no idea where I'd get a yellow one at this time on a Saturday!" hehehe biggrin

I went out to pick one up just in case anyway, as the local sports shop was closing. I bought some new goggles whilst there as mine have been letting in a bit recently....got the box home and discovered the moody black
Competition' spec items on the box hid a pair of pink junior/girls numbers inside! Think I'll stick with wet eyes!

Your help and advice is much appreciated gents, thanks. Now, I best get back to some stretching smile

So, y times for my first event today, The Huntley Sprint Tri:

Swim (750m): 00:17:16
T1: 00:02.36
Cycle (26.5km): 00:59:43
T2: 00:01.09
Run (5km): 00:30:42
Overall: 01:51:29

I had originally set my goal as a 01:45.00, when i started training 6 weeks ago. But that changed when my bike was stolen and I lost 3 weeks of proper cycle training, and my two local pools were closed for a couple of weeks. So I thought before the race I'd be happy with under 2 hours.

Now I'm home, I'm really disappointed with my run time especially and a bit down about my cycle time. The swim was OK, but was held up a bit by the lane being busy.

Anyway.... I enjoyed it, was a good event and I'm going to sign up for the full series next year :-) After that I might look at standard distances.

Thanks for the advice from peeps on here, was very much appreciated :-)

Did my first yesterday as well, through myself in at the deepend with the Olympic distance at London. Weather was awful but other than the run resembling a steeplechase in places it didn't matter much.

Official timing seems to have had problems but my loyal spectator and other half informs me it was about 35 on the swim, 1:15 on the bike and 55 for the run which I'm dead chuffed with :-)

Anyone who did the London Tri yesterday will confirm that the weather was pretty appalling. I found the bike very hard going due to the wind and rain. I really struggled with the run too. At least I finished it though. Due to my poor time, I felt pretty low when I left.

My transitions were much better than last year, so I was pleased with that.

I also bought myself a nice display rail for all my finishing medals smile

I'm hoping the 2013 event will return to its traditional July date. Hopefully we will get better weather next year.

Well, just back from my first open water tri - did the Sprint distance Virgin London Triathlon on Saturday.

750m Swim 00:16:50
20km Bike 00:39:04
5km Run 00:24:23
Total 1:27:52

Finished 49th in my old git (M40-44) category out of about 170 finishers and 383rd out of ~1850 overall. Went from mid 800s for the swim into the low 200s for the bike and the run, so not too difficult to spot where I need more training!

Weather was great and thoroughly enjoyed the race.

My better half did the Olympic distance yesterday and the weather was brutal so she did fantastically well to get round in 2:50. Right, back to training, IM Austria is just around the corner hehe

I did London yesterday afternoon - biblical weather on the bike stage. Scary once the gusts caught the aero wheels and blew you sideways.
Wasn't a fun of the run course this year with all the turns in it. Trying to turn 90degs every 200m in standing water wasn't going to produce any PBs. Think I was about 10mins slower than last year - still waiting for my run time to get filled in on the results page.

Hopefully next year it will be back to normal.
Well done all those that completed it :-)

I did london yesterday too - I went in the first wave in the afternoon - so was usefully dry for the swim - and then monsoon for everything else!!

Wasn't a fan of the steeplechase run course!!

faster than last year though - although who knows by how much...............

Results now up, don't seem to have accounted for the waves that were set off in two groups though. My cycle was good, obviously need work on the swim and run though!

Looks like I was 3rd fastest for the bike leg of the 400+ relay teams. Although I find it hard to think anyone did a 54 on that course so probably another glitch meaning possibly 2nd.

Happy with that on a road bike with shallow wheels and no tt helmet!

Never knew so many teams did it!!

What was your bike time okgo? I was pretty happy with my 1:06 while trying to save my legs a bit for the run.

1 hr 2 seconds, pissed me off actually as there was one of the turns where I had to almost slow to a stop behind this girl who took the corner at 5 mph, would have been inside the hour.

But I only did the relay, and I did the shorter course where the turn was at the bottom of the bridge.

I'd love to do more relays, but that course just isn't good enough.
