Rule 6 - I seem to have migrated to the ratty look myself. Still, an OMS wing on a blue H harness cool

Ahhh the practical diver... I'm very much with you on that. So long as you're comfortable and your kit works and everything falls to hand as it should, I think that's rule 6 covered.

Though I'm looking to swap out my ND Divemaster for a Hollis DX300 or similar soon.

Glad there are a few who cottoned on though, my wife just rolled her eyes at that one!

Rule 6... always rule 6!
That's why I have a Gucci drysuit! cool
When I bought my halcyon rig I managed to negotiate a good price for a 2 layer 7mm semi dry, so 14mm all together...... Very toasty and I was perfectly comfortable.... Come October I may start looking at dry suits but I just hate the idea of being detached from the water......

Come to our club and we'll get you in one of the school's PG Tips drysuits. You'll feel anything but detached from the water when you're wringing out your undersuit after the dive!

On the topic of PG Tips drysuits. This evening, I have mostly changed my chest valve for a nice Apeks one, and changed out a brittle LPI on my wing for a nice weighty DIR Zone one.

Much better

Anyone jump in New Years day?

I went to my local training lake. Lasted 26 mins at 3c! Couple of the boys I went with did 2 dives. Fools.

Need to do more diving in 2015. Did 60 odd dives in 2013 but only 20 in 2014.

I know a few who dived over Christmas - they were saying it felt warmer in the water than it was on dry land - well, for the first few minutes at least!

I decided a nice dram was a far better idea that diving this time round.

Still, 1 month tomorrow and it's off to Thailand for a couple of weeks warm water and sun.

Can. Not. Wait.

I've even taken the drysuit inflator hose off my regs this evening in preparation.

We had a dive on 27th and today, a quick 45 mins.

But west country by the sea so easy to get in any time, on the 27th it was warm deeper than 6 mtr, however shallower it was cold, ride on the boat was not fun, today was warmer, wore my gloves today.

Managed 8 dives from Xmas Eve to Hogmanay and one on the 3rd of Jan (having passed on the 1st and 2nd in the interests of domestic harmony).

29th Dec I christened my new twins (thanks Santa) properly after a few shallow practice dives. 34.5m stage stop dive.

31st Dec was my first 2 hour dive covering 2 caves we had spotted in the previous weeks. Stunning vis, nice and shallow and in the company of a vastly experienced cave diver.

3rd Jan, first dive of the year, nice easy dive on Billy Mae's Point.

This week I have a Cavern tomorrow in 12-18m, Thursday is a wreck in 27m and Saturday yet TBC.

Entrance to the large cave.

Long crawl through in 18m. Not a great pic.

Buddy in a shallow cavern.

Very territorial Moray at 34m

First turn in the cave approx 30m from entrance. Big surge near the roof of the cave.

Big lobster at the back if the cave.

Some great photos there Papa3. I'm hoping to get some diving done this year, I didn't get any done last year.

Thanks Sheik, very lucky to be somewhere that diving is readily accessible and cheap. Out tomorrow to a shallow reef then Saturday to a cavern and Sunday to a wreck in 45m.

If only it paid!

We should organise a PH dive meet over at Stoney or something when the weather turns for the better smile

That's a shame Papa. Would be good to get some people together though!

As we're all posting pics here are some of me when working a live aboard in the Similans

Whale Sharks tonight about 2 miles offshore. Not a bad Friday.

Off tomorrow to dive a small freighter in 25m. What's the water temp in Stoney just now? A balmy 23c here tonight.

Hi all

Some very nice photos here. All being well I'll one day have the chance to experience similar.

Couple of gear related questions if I may:

1) Any recommendations for dry-suit undergarments? I'm going to Malta late March, but would also use them in the UK all year round. I contemplated using my bike thermals, but I assume that I'd need to chop them up for the pee-valve (dry-suit hasn't arrived, so not entirely sure of the configuration).
2) I'll need a suitable bag for the flight (for dry-suit, BCD, etc, etc). Again any recommendations? There's a st load of choice out there so I know not what to get.

I'm just in the process of buying some of the torches recommended on this thread, together with some gloves, etc.

Thanks

I would suggest O3 PBB, I dive all year round in the UK and it works for me, also 4th element have a system, I prefer O3 though.

As for bag, I use a Beaver bag, thick canvas still, as long as one can secure it, I use cable ties to secure any zips.

Fun dive today, 20Mtrs 4 mtr viz and 5 degrees on the surface, warmer at depthwobble

4th Element Xerotherm for me - arctics for the winter months.

Most of the manufacturers do a bag for <insert cost of normal bag, print branding add £100>

I use a £20 holdall from Amazon for all mine.

Papa3 - stunning pics - this time next week I'm hoping to have the opportunity for the same subject matter off the Similan Islands.

ETA: Stoney is around 6/7 degrees if you believe the website (so 5 then)

I have a Fourth Element Arctic one-piece. I find it does me fine all year round. If it is particularly cold, I'll wear some thin thermals underneath. There is a zip top and bottom, so if you want to run a tube from a catheter to your pee-valve, you can run it from beneath the zip

If I was in the market for a new undersuit, I'd probably go for separate tops and bottoms. The Fourth Element tops have a crotch loop to stop it riding up when you get into your suit.

Bag-wise, I agree that stamping a brand name on it adds a premium to the price. I have a holdall from Decathlon: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/C-869679-waterproof-hol...

Mines the 70 litre one, third row down on the left. It feels quite substantial and is fairly waterproof.
