Nice picture too. They are supposed to be very "friendly" fish.

Is that you coming face to face? Looks like he's properly checking you out.
No thats my girlfriends dad! Its a good action shot, the shark was indeed checking him out and he was pushing his nose away! They are a very missrepresented animal. Is that you coming face to face? Looks like he's properly checking you out.
It was on this Dive http://www.divesitedirectory.co.uk/dive_site_red_s...
Anyone recommend a good underwater camera (upto £250) that works in depths unto 40m?
I thought about getting a case for the OHs G11 but they are up to £400 for the case, but people seem to make actual underwater cameras now.
I know the shots will not be as good as a £1000 camera, but unless I move to asia anytime soon, that is not an option at the moment.

Thats gone down a bit since I last looked... however isn't there something about the flash on those not working when in the case very well, hence something like the go pro might be better?
I used my GoPro on my last dive and it gave very disappointing photos, although I bought it mostly for mountain biking and skiing. I took over 100 shots and did not get any at all that were much good, the video was better. [quote=supersingle]I've been diving a few years now. I wouldn't class it as a sport though. One of the great things about diving is that it is so uncompetitive. Everyone gets something a different from it. For me it's about the sheer beauty of nature and the feeling of peace that comes over me beneath the water.
That is probably the best description of diving I have ever heard.
We've just got back from the Red Sea, did eight dives over four days, nothing deeper than 20 metres and every day the dives got longer, the the coral and the sea life surrounding it became more beautiful and I became more relaxed and at home again.
Why I stopped diving for nearly 30 years I shall never know.

Our plan was to do two dives every other day and for me to windsurf on the in between days, that plan was flexible apart from the day we had booked to go to Luxor which was fixed in advance, that ended up to be the day we were offered a dive on the Salem Express.
It would have been interesting but I did plenty of wreck diving in my other diving life and I'm not sure my wife would have liked it so not too bothered, might dive the Rhone if we go to the BVI's in November though.

looking at wadi lahami or marsa nakari to stay at.
Oh thinks the tents... I prefer the chalets so she doesn't get a choice.

Where in Egypt are you going?
Im off for a nile cruise in April finishing at the red sea, hopefully I can sneak off to Dahab and get a quick few dives whilst we are there.
We are going to Marsa Shagra http://www.marsa-shagra.org/ She has been quite a few times and rates it very highly.Im off for a nile cruise in April finishing at the red sea, hopefully I can sneak off to Dahab and get a quick few dives whilst we are there.
They said the reef at the hotel is better than marsa nakari so it was an easy decision, plus 25% off all accommodation and all hiring of the equipment made us decide it was worth the extra money.
I leave on thursday... can't wait, just waiting for the specially ordered mask and GoPro Hero 2 to arrive now... shame I couldn't get the http://www.aquaprohd.com/ blur fix lens in time.

Off to mexico in 2 weeks and considering doing a refresher dive before i go out there, i've not dive in 4 years due to poor health.
Worth doing in the UK or just do it out there? Any recs for somewhere near surrey? I guess i't going to be in a quarry but can it be done in a pool?
Whats wrong with spending a few dives in the warmth of Mexico doing the refresh course?Worth doing in the UK or just do it out there? Any recs for somewhere near surrey? I guess i't going to be in a quarry but can it be done in a pool?
My local does it for £75 and its in the swimming pool, so if that is better ring up your local...
course is as follows:
Skills
Equipment assembly
Review of signals
Buddy check
Giant stride or
Backward roll entry
Buoyancy check
Regulator recovery
Fin pivoting (neutral buoyancy exercise)
Mask removal
No mask swim
Mask replacement
Equipment removal underwater
Equipment removal surface
Alternate air source use
Deep water exit
Equipment disassembly

Are we talking recreational diving? Most dive operators will insist you do a refresher if you have not dived in 6 months or more. The PADI Scuba Review costs about £50 and can be done in a couple of hours in a pool. It would of course be sensible to ease yourself back into it with a few shallow dives after doing the refresher course.Worth doing in the UK or just do it out there? To be honest, I could probably go through the above with most people and I'm far from an experienced diver
I'd do it before you go though, it'll probably all come rushing back and, as you're not a beginner, why waste time you could be 'properly' diving in Mexico.
