The Tideway Head has just been cancelled, what odds on the Vets Head going ahead on Sunday?
It has in the past, but since the early cancel will have saved some people making the journey, they may cancel both.Is the weather looking to be really bad tomorrow?

Very cold with a strong Easterly wind, add in the large amount of land water coming down at the moment and you have a recipe for pretty serious waves.
It's not like it's the 1x Head is it? You're fine with a bit of chop in an 8-... Was it 2003 when it was called off, and a few clubs went down in 1 on 1 races a bit later on when the wind had dropped? The Vets race was still run on the Sunday.
That year was probably the only time I had top my previous best finish position, and happened a couple of months before a knee injury put me out for the entire summer season.

Bad news to see the HoR cancelled.
The river would have been pretty nasty near Hammersmith Bridge and past Harrods.
God , brings a tear to the eye though , modern day oarsman have gotten so used to paddling around on a lake that a few waves and taking on water has them running .Wet in more than one way
The Pat and Bill Barrys of this world will be cringing.
I remember a final of the Metropolitan regatta around 1970 ,where we had to run for cover alongside the Fulham FC and Bishops Park wall , it was just a matter of who could keep the water out and get to the finish line.
Similar experiences for the Vesta Dashes.
In all seriousness , it is an incredible shame to see so many of these great regattas no longer on the Thames.
Do they still run 4 a breast at the Pangbourne and Whitchurch regatta ?

As the sun is shining I may take a walk down and watch the start of the boat race this afternoon.
Been 40 + years since I last saw one.
Then , you would have street vendors selling rosettes for the various colours , along with crossed oars as a lapel badge , not sure that would be a saleable item nowadays , do people still support a crew ?
I always followed Oxford as a kid , but then we lived in Putney and was always playing on the towpath so had an inherent interest in watching rowing.

Good race. Cambridge were pushing hard all the way - gutsy performance. The Oxford rhythm seemed to settle once they got to Barnes - solid rowing from there in. However, it also looked to me that Cambridge closed down half a length of Oxford's lead from Barnes Bridge to the finish. Though that mainly seemed to be poor coxing from Oxford - where was he going?

That was appalling coxing frankly. Could quite easily have cost them big time had Cambridge been able to maintain overlap...
That cox should have been thrown in before the mile post.
I would have been shot if I had tugged on the rudder the way he was (many years back steering first class eights ), totally unsettling the boat at times too , it was he that kept Cambridge in the race.
