Glad it's not me then, might swallow my pride and take a small cushion to the gym
I just use a hand towel folded up a couple of times, (quarters I think.) It seems to help things out enough. Over the years I tried all manner of official seat pads and stuff. I came up with the following:Folded towel on an erg.
Godfrey rubber pad, (with a little clip on the back so it hangs off the seat when the boat is upside down,) on my Stampfli 1x seat.
Nothing on any other boat.

Three years of rowing for uni and home town here. Any PHers from Southampton Uni Boat Club or Gloucester Rowing Club?
Best decision I made at uni, joined in my second year having realised about easter of my first year that it was unhealthy, expensive and ultimately pointless just lashing it up every night.
Did wonders for my health, self motivation and social life. Good mementos as well - few pots and medals, great friends and I married the novice ladies'
Re longer ergos: very gifted mate at uni did an hour at a rock steady 1:45 purely because someone had the temerity to suggest he couldn't. That's over 17k in an hour. He wasn't even struggling for the first 40 mins or so Not fair.

Anyone taking part in either HORR or Masters head this weekend?
Nope, but if I wasn't away for the weekend I would have lumbered down for a nose around and a pint or three. What number are you going off? If you have a st start number, the game is to see how many place improvement you can make.louiebaby said:

We are way down on Saturday - am in novice crew - but the boat is pretty quick (thanks to the young fliers in the boat, not me). The same crew competed at Kingston last weekend.
The HORR is probably my favourite event. We had an interesting one when I rowed for Aberdeen one year. They only entered one crew the year before, and it seemed to have been a group of novices who wanted to go to London for a weekend. They did terribly. This meant that when we only entered one crew in my year, we had to start at 387 or 397. (Something like that.)Out coach managed to convince the organisers to let us go off in position 100.5, and we finished 32nd or 33rd overall. However in the results, it still said our official start number, so it looked like we made up 350 odd places!
This has the start and finish positions... It seems we were boat 386, coming in 33rd...

We actually did that in 1989 - moved up from 350 or so to 38. That represented an improvement on my first ever HORR in 1982 when my school crew started 380 or so and finished a bit lower. One year, the school second boat managed last by going the wrong side of the Black Buoy.
In terms of places made up, that's very impressive indeed. We once made up 159 places, which we were very happy with.louiebaby said:

Do you still get a free night in the brewery if you win.....great night for the rest of the crew (I stuck to orange juice)!
I never heard about this. How long ago was that?BarryGibb said:

We won the Novice category by 1/100 of a second. Have to do it all again tomorrow.Am also doing the vets novice on Sunday - think that will be a bit more sedate.

How did any one get on at the HORR the other weekend?
See above - we won the Novice category (revised to joint first) - 121st overall which isn't too bad considering we had a big range of ages and sizes in the boat. Pennants are being presented by Sir Matthew next week.Edited by BarryGibb on Saturday 24th March 06:00
