Went to this on sunday for the morning session on table 1 selt v hawkins. First time and was amazed by just how small the crucible is. Quite a good experience despite not really being into snooker.

Just saw that on the beeb website:

What a great chance that was!

I'm impressed Ding was able to laugh about it. Maybe he forgot about about the potential money and prestige he'd just missed out on too...

I'd love to see Mark Williams do well. I've no idea why. Perhaps because anyone who buys a 355 (albeit long since sold i believe) gets a thumbup from me.

Did he not crash it/write it off, or have imagined reading/hearing that ?.

Either way, I agree with you, clearly a man of great taste.

Good question. The closest i could find was an old article (2002) on the BBC News website saying he'd bent his Noble M12:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/2610077.stm

Still, that's at least 2 cars he's owned that feature on my want list so: thumbupthumbup

Not looking great though at 7-2 down to Stevens...

Ahhh, I didn't realise he had a Noble at the same time, maybe it's that crash that I'm thinking of. I see he also had an Impreza P1 at the time too, that's another car I rate. In fact, having the P1, the Noble and the 355 at the same time indicate he's a real petrolhead, I wonder what he has these days ?

Has anyone else noticed the same couple sitting next to the players on table two? They have been in the same seats all week, wonder if they will be there until the end?

Quite possibly, I remember hearing of people in the past who have attended every day.

Selby seems to be making hard work of things. It looks like the Crucible curse will catch up with him. Still, now Williams is out i'll be supporting Stevens. The King is dead (no, not Mark King), long live the King...

I'm just pleased how quiet the snooker club was last night hehe

Not so pleased how easy the pros make a high break look though, I'm over the moon if I manage a 35-40 break!

35-40? Dreamland. I consider red-colour-red a successful night at the table hehe

I used to love the quietness of my old snooker club. There was a table in a room by itself, possibly a smoking room back in those days, that was always available and made it easier to sledge your opponent without disturbing others. Alas, the price for the freely available table was that it's now a block of flats...

As I said, a 35-40 and I'm over the Moon, only tends to happen once over the course of 10 or so frames though. Most of the time I'm lucky to pot 3 or 4 in a row!

And Yes, clubs seem to be shutting all the time around here. I heard a story a few weeks ago about a local club shutting and couldn't sell the tables so they were just pushed down a flight of stairs! Would love to have had the room to save one.

My local one seems quite popular, it's Riley's in Chester. Has six tables in a quiet room and a couple out in the big main room along with the pool ,darts and big screen.

Was there the other week having a game when I noticed an oldish guy playing on his own on a table.

Every time I looked over the balls were being potted from everywhere.

After a while I realised it was Dennis Taylor, had a quick word before we went and he says he comes there regularly as he likes it there.

I knew he lived near Wrexham but would have thought he would have his own table at home.

I used to work in Butlins in Bognor, in the late 80's and Ray Reardon used to come up from Devon once a week to do some exhibition stuff, top bloke. Had a chauffer driven Vauxhall senator with the number plate POT 147.

Used to be loads of tables in Butlins, don't know if they are all still there

I haven't held a cue in anger for years but Basildon Snooker Centre was my club in the late 80's/early 90's. I used to work at a Burger King in the town and we always went after work, my boss at the Burger King was a chap named Django Fung, who now manages Judd Trump and many others.

Selby-McGill finishes this evening - it should be a good one. The last session finished with Selby 10-6 down. McGill is a really good young player - I hope he wins.

Also looking forward to Ding knocking out Higgins tomorrow.
