He seems to have an Aura and fear factor about him and that seems to give him an advantage before he even picks up his cue, it is amazing that he can have that amount of time off and just rock up and win a tournament, he is so naturally gifted its unreal.
He's also a mid-standard club runner. I wonder if he's picked up the habit of vastly understating how much training/practise he's doing from his running mates. It's a common conversation in running clubs:
"Training much?"
"Nah, hardly at all"
"Me neither, just not motivated to do more than 50 miles a week"
"Yeah, just ticking over"

I wonder if there's a snooker equivalent from Ronnie, when he say's he's barely picked up his cue?

Yes that is a fair point for sure.

I'd really like him to at least equal Hendry's titles so he's always up there and not a Jimmy White nearly man. He really should have them nailed by now.
Agree and he should have had them nailed by now and I do think he will equal Hendry.

At the Welsh Open today Ronnie pots 14 reds and 13 blacks and then doesn't even bother trying to get on what would have been the 14th black and takes the pink instead - ends up with a 146 break. He deliberately turned down the 147 because it was only worth 10 grand. I remember him doing something similar a few years ago - is on a 147 and gets on the last black perfectly then decides he won't pot it, the ref then urges him to do it 'for the fans' so he pots it.

Ronnie today said:
I knew it was 10 grand and I just thought that’s a bit too cheap really. To make a maxi, it’s such a massive achievement and if they’re going to pay us 10 grand, I think it’s worth a bit more than that. Once the prize goes up a bit, I’ll go for the 147. A 146 is just as good

Ronnie o Sullivan is tragic. He's an amazing talent and should be awesome, but he's such a miserable bellend, he ruins stuff for his fans as well as himself on a regular basis. Seeing people like Paul Hunter go at such an early age, and Ronnie keep going despite himself takes the fun out of snooker.

PS - before you start, I don't want any ill towards Ronnie. I just want him to cheer up a bit.

He's suffered from depression for years.

I'm sure every genuine snooker fan wishes the same.

Snooker is just dull as dishwater IMHO

49 pages in almost 4 years on here ! Thats about two days worth if the Scousers get beat.

I know Ronnie is the most Charismatic player in world snooker, but don't you think the people that payed good money to go & watch that game live deserved to see the perfect break ?

The Daily Mail is read by more people than the Times, Telegraph, Guardian, Independant and FT put together.

Just because lots of gobstes want to talk about something, doesn't make it good.

Hearn's got to make out he's not happy, it's his job.

But there's only one person can get a first round match in a small tournament against a journeyman player on the home page of the BBC site and talked about in the news and that man is Ronnie O'Sullivan. And for that free publicity I suspect Barry isn't really upset at all.

That's a good post & to be fair i never even knew there was a Snooker competition on till i read this on the Beeb website so maybe Ronnie & Barry are smarter than most .

With Barry's skill at making money and Ronnie's skill at playing snooker (and making money) I don't think there's any maybe about it. smile

I think that there have been more 147's made on TV than 146's--so was pleased to see it.

O Sullivan is a genius though.

Really looking forward to this.

Would be nice to see Ali Carter do well--playing great so far.

Bingham/Carter match is excellent, looking like we might get a final frame decider.
Carter may just regret not playing the snooker there.

Well done Ali Carter. Lots of bottle shown there especially during the end stages of the match. The 'curse of the Crucible' strikes again.
