I am also strange as I am looking forward to the Olympics. I didn't manage to get any tickets for the able bodied games but got tickets for the Paralympics. Am taking the OH and my daughter to watch some athletics, wheelchair basketball, 7-aside football and some other sports I've not seen before like goalball. Before you post saying 'I bet it cost a fortune' it worked out at £110 including transport into London and 2 nights accomodation for the three of us. Will be a great weekend away and we will never have the opportunity again to attend an event like this.

mblade123 said: Well, as the title says, thats it. " The LONDON 2012 Olympics". Thats what it's being promoted as. Nothing what so ever to do with the rest of the UK. Being a resident of these fair Isle from birth I would have thought it might have been the British Olympics but no. As far as the rest of world is concernd LONDONshire is England. Well sod them. England is a bigger place, and in my my view, a better place than London alone. I do apologise for the lack of swear words for a true RANT, but one has standards. True I have no idea why we're bothering with Glasgow/Newcastle/Manchester/Coventry/Cardiff/Weymouth. Keep it in London I say

But , it's all the UK tax payers that get to pay for it ! I live just north of Newcastle and get to pay for something I'm not allowed to get a ticket for ! Super !

The organisers are required to host as many of the events in the host CITY as possible, with the obvious exceptions for things like sailing. I love the UK but I love living in London too. Have you spent any significant time down here, or just nipped down for a weekend, did a couple of touristy things, moaned about crowds on Oxford St, ate at an Angus Steak House and went home again? Yep, all tower blocks down here But you know, don't come again - you really wouldn't like the desperately grim inner city. Got any pics of Proper London rather than Surrey? I presume the dear are in Richmond Park

just spotted this thread and found it ridiculous.
OP clearly has no knowledge on the previous Olympics. As others have mentioned, they've ALWAYS been named after the city that hosted it. 2004 wasn't the Greek Olympics, it was Athens 2004, for instance.

Richmond Park is in London, it's in the Lomdon Borough Richmond upon Thames, as is Barnes, which is where the pond picture was taken. I live in London, work in Canary Wharf, have to deal with the chaos it will undoubtedly bring, and I am looking forward to the games immensely. I hope it will be a resounding success.

After two attempts I've managed to get Canoe Slalom tickets for the K1 and C1 men's heats at Lee Valley today. Both children are avid paddlers, with my lad competing nationally in the lower divisions.
Have to say both of them are excited and I'm glad my persistence has paid off to give them a once in a life time experience.

I'm looking forward to the games, although the fact it's in the country feels largely irrelevant as it will still just be on tv. I was offered some tickets, which I doubt I'd have been if it was elsewhere. Sadly it was for the sort of event that only the competitors and their immediate family would be interested in! Like everyone else I wanted mens 100m finals etc! Being serious it would take something like that to get me inside the M25, which I avoid at all costs. London is a bit scary for us West Country folk.

Do you think Londoners felt engaged in the Manchester games? I think the only difference is that southerners didn't whinge as much when it was in Manchester, in fact I can't remember any bitterness from the south. Personally, I wished Manchester all the best. It's a shame that so much of the country can't do the same for London. BTW, nice one wobert, enjoy!
