Every single games (he says without checking) has been named after the host City. London is the host city, ergo London Olympics as we had the Beijing Olympics, the Athens Olympics and the Sydney Olympics before it (not the Chinese Olympics, the Greek Olympics and Australian Olympics... sounds ghey like that anyway).

But , it's all the UK tax payers that get to pay for it ! I live just north of Newcastle and get to pay for something I'm not allowed to get a ticket for ! Super ! Ticket farce is a whole other issue though. I got told I never applied for any tickets.... when I definitely did. Specifically remember seeing the confirmation page. Biggest pile of cack is the tickets given to Athletes. Its a joke. While Seb hands em out to his best friends and corporate business buds. Stinks, I bet Lord Coe has minted himself and his cronies off the back of this Olympics.

Everyone calls it a ticket farce but it's the same with Wembley, Wimbledon, Champions League etc etc Sponsors etc always get a healthy ticket allocation. I don't know what the stats are but I suspect in terms of attendance percentage the London Olympics will probably have the fullest stadia of any Olympics ever. Personally I am really, really looking forward to it and live and work in London so it's going to be hard to get to work etc for two or three weeks. I couldn't care....it's a lifetime opportunity and have managed to get tickets for some athletics and rowing and can't bloody wait

Well apparently they've managed to extinguish the flame already - some guy in a wheelchair going too fast blew it out. Good old Brits f k it up before it's even started. Grounds for cancellation eh?

We just booked up a weekend today through Thomas Cook given they are only ones you can do this through. You have limited options to pay… the *only* credit card they will accept is VISA and they charge you…. wait for it…. £50 as a booking fee !!! What a rip-off… If you pay by debit card there is no booking fee but tickets are non-refundable and you don't have the insurance cover of the card… Robbing bar-stewards! Still, must admit we're looking forward to it...;)

I must be in the (lucky) minority then.
Booked an adult and two junior tickets for August 1st football at the Millennium Stadium. That's Mexico v Switzerland at 5pm and Team GB v Uruguay later on afterwards. Total cost £42 plus £6 delivery and all booked inside half an hour just after the website crashed.

Got an email today advertising the cycling road race tickets. Those will be worthwhile, esp if you get to see Sky and Cav go for it.

I see that there is controversy in the Taekwondo world. GB Taekwondo have decided not to put forward the World No 1 Aaron Cook, but instead put forward another fighter ranked 93rd in the world rankings in the 80kg weight.
Having a read around it appears that Cook wasn't happy last year with training and tactics so went his own way employing his own training team and sorting out his own financing.
Apparently the BOA can over rule the names put forward to them for selection.

I've just heard that I am going to be a volunteer driver at the sailing events at the Olympics. Means I will be driving a new BMW for the days I'm participating. Will be a bit of an upgrade from my Yaris!

Revival... Beckham NOT in the Team GB team. Disgraceful. Stuart Pearce has just lost every bit of respect I had for him and can go f k himself. All the U23 players would have loved the chance to play with Becks and I'm sure the support for the Team would increase ten fold with Beckham involved. Beckham would have been more than a player. He's an inspiration. Instead, Micah Richards is apparently one of the over 23s - to join the already mentioned Craig Bellamy. What a f king joke.

The man can still play high-level football. Not to mention he will inspire the team and have incredible support. Bad decision.

Just goes to show that being a great player does not make you a great manager. Pearce you fool!!

I dont get the U23 thing? I know nothing about soccer but follow basketball where they are talking about it - to much disgust as lots of players dont reach their peak until way after that.
Is it not "who's best" rather than how old???

It's an attempt to make the Olympics more "amateur" rather than just having the top professional teams enter and win.
Personally, I'd drop Football, Tennis and Basketball from the Olympics - an Olympic Gold is not the highest honour in any of those sports.

Beckham was a very good but not a great player in my opinion.....marketing mans dream though. He's 37 and playing a pretty poor standard of football now. I suspect if he couldn't still get ridiculous money he'd have retired.
Just to remind people here's the list of Top 10 Premier League Players....not selected by me
Dennis Bergkamp (Arsenal) Eric Cantona (Leeds, Man Utd) Ryan Giggs (Man Utd) Thierry Henry (Arsenal) Roy Keane (Nottm Forest, Man Utd) Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd) Paul Scholes (Man Utd) Alan Shearer (Blackburn, Newcastle) Patrick Vieira (Arsenal, Man City) Gianfranco Zola (Chelsea)

pleased Beckham isnt in the team, he's a great footballer with a lot to offer but he has been a complete arse in the for the last few months courting himself to the manager by making comments to the press like "i would love to be in the team" a and "it would be a great honour etc etc....." his desperation to be part of this olympics team is laughable.
and now he is throwing a tantrum and whinging to the press about it rather than doing the honourable thing and keeping schtum.
over 23s are Giggs, Belllamy and Micah Richards.
