I believe so, physically at least. He was due to spend the summer at Somerset and that's now off as he's sorted his rift with the WIndies cricket board. What his mental state will be is another matter.I'd dearly love to get to Lords for a day, however I'm stupidly busy with too much work and other life, so it may be another summer without a day in the sun quaffing champagne, eating good food, enjoying excellent company etc.
I can see Jimmy walking away with 20 wickets in the short series to be honest.

Ive said it many many times over the years and been scoffed at, but Jimmy is the most naturally talented swing bowler England have ever produced. Botham got many of his wickets just from being Beefy, Jimmy hasnt got that aura to help him. Fred and Tyson had the aura to go with their talent aswell and it may be ultimately that lack of aura that stops him from being the best English bowler of them all. Either way though, you say Fred, Tyson, Beefy and Jimmy and he aint in the wrong company.

Given the Windies' performance in their warmup against the Lions and the fact that it's still pretty chilly here in London, I can't see anything but a complete tonking for them. Would be better to play a more competitive side to get us warmed up for the Saffers, which on paper should be a much more exciting series.
I've got tickets to the Aussie ODI at Lords - should be a good day out. Even better if they pick Mitchell Johnson (he is in the squad), I do like a good laugh.

So who gets the spot at third quick. I'd really like to see Finn playing a home test and see how much pace and control he can produce....for me he's got massive potential. I think they will go with Bresnan though....he's a very useful competitor and I think his batting in what could be very tricky conditions will be seen as useful especially with a new batsman in Bairstow.
I'd love to see the Windies put up a fight...test cricket would be much the better for a decent Windies side.

I think that Bairstow is a better batsman than Bopara and will grow into an excellent test match batsman, something that I don't think Bopara will ever achieve. I'd love to see the Windies put up a fight...test cricket would be much the better for a decent Windies side.
I'm not too fussed whether Finn, Bresnan or Onions gets the last bowling slot. One of Englands great strengths over the last few years has been surfeit of quality bowlers. I don't think that's ever been the case in my lifetime and I suspect that this period will be the only time it is. I'll guess that Bresnan gets the nod for his extra batting skills. Unless a couple of the WIndies find good form early on, then I can see our bottom five scoring more runs than the WIndies top five in the first innings or the final test.
I'm sad in a way, I grew up playing cricket on a patch of grass near the middle of Luton and was usually the only white kid there. So much enthusiasm, passion and talent from both the West Indians I played with as well as Clive Lloyd, Viv Richards, Gordon Greenwich, Logie, Dujon, Marshall, Holding and Joel "Bleddy hell, the stumps don't even come up to his knees" Garner. I don't want to see them clattering us into next week as they used to, however I also don't want anything other than a competitive opposition. Here's hoping that at least their attitude is right, even if I don't think they've got all the skills to threaten us.

Im looking forward to seeing Bairstow in test action. Sir Boycs has been talking this kid up for a cpl of seasons on his technique and attitude alone, its not often he does that and he probably still has the best eye for test technique in the country! Well, him and Sir Graham of Essex.

On batting in English conditions: "The most important thing is your footwork. If you have a lazy leading foot you're going to have problems. Good leaves are always very important." You sense a few international bowlers down the years wish he had done more of that when he was playing.
Sir Viv talking about leaving. Now, my memory might be playing tricks on me but I dont recall ever seeing him leave anything!!! I dont think I ever saw him just block a ball either!

Anderson to Powell, OUT, 134.6 kph, this is the inswinger and bowls him! Powell thought of leaving again and was so late on it, lost his off stump. Anderson set him up beautifully with consecutive deliveries that angled away, Powell shaped to ignore another but it swung in and the defensive stroke got nowhere near the ball which clattered into the top of off stump
