Excellent - WI a sterner test than many predicted - well played all.
I think our bowling lacked a bit of threat - predict Bresnan to be "rotated" in favour of another.

Decent start to the summer for England and good to see the Windies putting up a fight. Strauss and Bell are both back in the runs which is good and none of the batsman really failed in what weren't easy conditions.
What will be interesting for me is to see whether the selectors go for Finn or Bresnan in the next test....or maybe Tremlett if he's fit. I think Tremlett is out most under rated cricketer of the last 18 months or so.
If we can beat the Windies with everyone having contributed that will stand is in good stead for the Saffers.

Finn has the potential to be our best bowler....genuine mid 90's with his height is a fearsome combo. That said at this time of year in these conditions I think Brezzer was always the shout for his batting. I think Finn will play against South Africa, against their batting line up we will need the extra penetration.

I'm still annoyed that we put them in. It wasn't a putting in pitch. We'll also have to bat with a little more application against the Saffers if we're to carry on winning.
It'll be interesting to see if the WIndies will keep up their good work, especially if the don't get a result at Trent Bridge.

I am sure most of us remember the great Windies teams and players.....test cricket is much the poorer with a weak Windies team.

No disgrace and no capitulation in these results...esp given how poor they've been before. Tour Results West Indies v Australia at Roseau - Apr 23-27, 2012 Australia won by 75 runs West Indies v Australia at Port of Spain - Apr 15-19, 2012 Match drawn West Indies v Australia at Bridgetown - Apr 7-11, 2012 Australia won by 3 wickets It's great, WI were in danger of becoming a 2nd tier team (like Bangladesh). The fact that they've turned the corner is brilliant for cricket (and the health of Test cricket in particular). I think WI were massively damaged by the lure of T20 and particularly how badly Stanford f  ked them over. Glad to see they've moved on and are forming a proper Team (rather than a couple of stand-outs)

And it was less than 200 minus Shiv. What more exactly do you want?

What more exactly do you want? For us to have batted first, put 400+ on the board then there's scoreboard pressure on them in their first innings. A lot of them are young and we really should have put them under more pressure than we did. I don't believe it's a major issue, I'm reasonably happy with how the match went, after all, I remember the WIndies when Joel Garner was their fourth best bowler. I jsut think we missed a couple of very minor opportunities to put our boot on their neck

It was still a 150 run lead. Strauss put them in on the overhead conditions, not the pitch, which given that it is Lords is entirely justifiable as the Lords pitch is generally the truest in the country. In this instance on a cloudy, overcast and swing friendly day, the "foot on neck" approach was letting Jimmy and Broad loose upon them. Whatsmore Strauss putting himself in under those conditions against a 90mph attack really would have been a bit too much pressure in an uneccessary situation.

So perfect day for a spot of Cricket, one up in the series - confidence sky high.
KP under a cloud - who knows what Englands Leading Batsman is thinking of his employers today ? Luckily he bats for his stats not his bosses - so I think he will be fired up.
Bresnan or Finn - that is the question, for me I would have Finn, Bresnan is the past - Finn has what 53 wickets in 12 tests ?
The future is now, pick Finn.
