World no1...yes world no1 (do we have many of them?) has been rejected by the powers that be to represent Britain at the Olympics and he replacement is ranked 59
Reading between the lines is this just in house politics within Teakwando? -apparently he didn't like training methods set out by governing body so went back to his own training method. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

Only in Britain could we manage to do this. It's an absolute joke.
World no1 not picked for a guy miles behind who I believe has to change weight class as well.
IMO its simply because he thought the governing body were a joke so pulled out of the programme and funded it himself and has got to World no1 without them. This is the payback

This is the payback is that it ? "Cook came fourth in the 2008 Olympic competition but last year left the umbrella of British Taekwondo’s high-performance programme, surrendering his funding to train alone." "Cook was initially overlooked for selection last week, with British Taekwondo preferring Lutalo Muhammad, 20. Muhammad is also a European champion but won his title in a different weight category at the tournament in Manchester last month."

I question the impartiality of the UK body; telly news said one of the reasons for bumping him in favour of the other guy was 'he's shorter so will miss more high-scoring head/neck kicks' or words to that effect. WTF? He's the ing world f king champion!

Soir said: Teakwando? Is that the Korean art of tea-making? News article today had the decision makers claiming that they chose the other guy because he had a better chance. (apparently he's improving fast and is better at head shots). Recent rule changes have been brought in to liven up the dull sparring and encourage head kicks with more points. The other opinion is that Cook's been omitted for political reasons 'cause he's training outside of the academy. Whatever the reasons, they're accelerating the process of getting TKD dumped from the Olympics, which has been on the cards for a while apparently.

Olympics is all about the politics.
As soon as he told them to stick the (crap) training methods (and became No1 on his own) they couldn't wait to give him the metaphorical finger and turn him down.
It seems sports attract the same sort of power hungry people as politicians, we all know how they love to stab others in the back when the can (metaphorically of course, they are not allowed near the sharp knife drawer).

Personally I think the Olympics are a joke. Would be funny if he was able to go there by other means, quick passport change or something?

It does seem as though it's political.
