Not spotted a thread on this. Great atmosphere at the Excel Centre and some good boxing too.

Good start for Ogogo, particularly with what he's been through recently with his mother being taken ill this week. He'll be up against it in the next round though against the Ukrainian...

His mother had an aneurism. His sister flew back from Oz 37 weeks pregnant to look after her too, talk about having distractions! Still, his brother in law flew back too, and he owed me a pint, so some good came of it. Nice to see a local lad doing well.

I've been watching this evening though have called it a day now that Ron McIntosh is commentating! The Mozambique guy took a few big shots, fair play for him for keeping going. Super seeing the little Thai chap take the win against the Algerian. Woodhall had the Algerian all bigged up the Thai fella made him look like a cynical, gormless scrapper.

Two, at least, very shoddy referees tonight. Disgraceful and disgusting really, pity they can't do anything to restore justice in these situations.

What a relief! I thought he was very lucky - I was surprised he was up 2pts after round 1 - he did better in round 2 but clearly lost the third. Looked tense, tight and very flat footed + got beaten to the punch too often.
Ironically he might do better against the more highly rated Europeans/easterners who have less movement and speed than Savon and are more orthodox but tough/rough and big punchers. Should be wars.

As I said in the other thread on the Olympics in general, I thought that after the 2nd the scored probably should have been level, the suban seemed to land more in the second and at best the GBR lad nicked a draw in that round. However, he was completely outclassed in the 3rd, seemed to drop his work rate and didn't defend terribly well either.
Hopefully he wont come across that sort of boxer again, and I can see why the cuban is rated so highly, very fast feet, excellent movement around the ring, decent punch but seemed to lack a decent guard and head movement.

Hopefully it was nerves and he'll settle down into the tournament now. A lot more pressure on the lad now than at the world championships last year...
