smartypants said: Funny bit of writing in the Telegraph today scoring each of the main BBC anchors out of 10 Balding they gave 10/10 Wow, that article is terrible, written by Harry Wally perhaps? 9/10 for Denise Lewis??? Matt Baker 6.5/10 and he's 'redeemed himself'? Good grief, is there no karma? John Inverdale 4/10? Ok he's not to everyone's taste but he's been ok in the rowing imo, and he choked up when the British lads put in a monumental effort in this afternoon. 10/10 for Clare Balding? Not my cup of tea, but others seem to like her clumsy style. No mention of Jake in the velodrome? His chatter with Jamie Staff and Mark Cavendish has been excellent, Jamie's the new EJ!

Pundit Schmundit. Most are over exuberant and obsequious.Good for Cavendish for getting angry.Clare Balding seems to be the only presenter whose questions are mostly respectful and slightly knowledgeable.Inverdale,Logan,Lineker - strictly football, where an IQ is not needed to present.

Surely she's not a presenter.I mean I've seen her a bit on the Beeb but surely they're not letting her present?

What I like about Clare Balding is her ability to explain sports to the uninitiated whilst managing not to alienate those who already know what's going on - the Grand National is a great example of this.

As an expert commentator - rather than presenter - Richie Woodhall has done an excellent job with the boxing. Clearly interested (said the other day how he would love to do it all night and didn't want to stop, even after several hours when they swap his partners over!) and interesting, gives real insight into details like the footwork and signals one fighter gives off and how the other should respond, has first hand experience of our team and takes refs to task for bad and 'fussy' decisions!

Cant stand her... but if you are not the type to live and breathe swimming, then I can see how her comments, opinions and information can be very useful. For me, alot of what she says is either dumb or obvious. But then I have been swimming from and early age, and follow the swimming circus throughout the year so I already know whats going on and whats gone on. I do find Adrian and Andy to be quite good as well. Jake gets my vote... he can just about present anything.

But would you feel the same about Jake as you do about Clare's comments had he been presenting on your preferred sport?

Clare and Jake for me. Whats grating me the most, is they all seem to have to ask Team GB if the crowd cheering them on is helping??? Its our games they should be shouting, squealing willing our team to win. Think im being grumpy MRS400 also thinks im bein grumpy

Lack of knowledge, obvious comments and stupid questions grate no matter who it is. Jake does at least appear far less clumsy in delivery and his voice is less annoying, Clare can blurt sometimes and get a bit ahead of herself. Jake appears more laid back and his presentation style is much less shouty/more smooth. Still he asks dumb questions on the F1 and that annoys me. But what can you do... they can't have a commentator/presenter that caters to the minority. It just wouldn't work.

Gun said: It's definitely between Jake Humphrey and Claire Balding for best presenter. As for experts there have been quite a few good ones, Mark Foster and Ian Thorpe were great in the swimming but for me it's Michael Johnson. Can't disagree with any of that. JH is laid back personified (although he dropped an uncomfortable clanger when interviewing Lizzie Armitage) and CB is great at asking questions outside the norm. There's no inane "How does it feel to win?" b ks from her. Denise Lewis has an infectious enthusiasm that comes across well too. Johnson is just phenomenally good at presenting and commenting/commentating. He was on the radio the other day and was asked whether Phelps is the best Olympian ever and simply replied he doesn't agree there's any such thing, there are people's "favourite" Olympians but "best" is ridiculous. Now, I know it's not a radical thing to say but it's just the way he says things, very calmly and without any bias or hyperbole. That piece he did a couple of years ago on Usain Bolt still stands out for me; watching two astounding talents discuss things at the (almost, not quite) opposite ends of their careers. Re: Cavendish, I'm not sure there are many sportspeople who are great on TV when they're still competing, for some reason (media training after they retire?), although one who stands out and is a dead cert for presenting is Victoria Pendleton. Her interview after being disqualified was just brilliant. No histrionics, just the facts and acceptance and a moving on. Class.

B Huey said: Hazel Irvine is dull, I don't know why they've had her on BBC Breakfast this week. Fair comment, but always very well briefed, never drops a b*llock, unobtrusive, unshouty, lets the sports speak for themselves. Most of all though, she isn't Matt Baker. Dear god BBC, please stop it, now - turn him out into Nelson's paddock to run with the other vacuous one will you?

Have to say Ian Thorpe's been very good as the analyst. Excellent addition to the BBC team.
