Shame Rory did not win, but Lewis did seem genuinely humbled so fair enough. Lewis was right with one thing though in his speech, we do have some great British sports men and women at the minute - long may the success continue!! smile

Still surprised Hamilton won it but maybe the fact his championship win is so fresh in the memory helps but crtainly think Rory should have got it

Great to see Lewis win, very pleased.

He thoroughly deserves it.

Plus it'll be funny to see the usual people get their knickers in a twist over the result hehe.

OTOH, Rory couldn't have done it without his sticks. A considerable amount of engineering goes into those as well.

Just waiting for an angry Scotsman to shout about how Sir Chris was robbed.

Fair play to the bloke for winning - it was a toss up between him and Rory, however now that he has won it, maybe it's time to drop the 'personality' bit from the title. The bloke's dull as dishwater.

Sticks? I think you'll find they're called "bats". Get it right.

That's the first time I've watched SPOTY in a long time and I really enjoyed it. It's clearly a very well produced show. Why does grumbling come so easily to this country these days?

yes Pleased Hamilton won...
And a great comment on the BBC web site biggrin

"Seb Patrick: It's worth giving Lewis Hamilton the SPOTY award just to enjoy the outrage from people who think F1 isn't a real sport but golf is."

Didn't watch the history show beforehand then? The show originator was very precise on the wording to be Personality from the start so the show included men and women. Don't forget the phrase "sports person" didn't exist in 54, so he used Personality. It was never intended to be used in the context of someone's personality. That misconception in fact is entirely down to the years featuring the banter between Hill and JYS. The humour aspect was then taken on from there.

Lewis looks like a bloke more at peace with himself these days. I think it's called growing up.

Well done Lewis.
SPOTY should reward those who have climbed to the top of their chosen sport. I think he's done that, and so deserves the prize.
I too am from Stevenage, and he was in my daughters class at school.
I'd see him occasionally getting on the bus in the morning, and he was a very cheeky / cocky lad back then.

We all know the correct term is raquets.
