I don't see Tyson Fury mentioned yet. The guy was messed around by David Haye. Twice. Lost alot of time and money training for those non fights. Won against Kilstko against all doubters.

Is a great entertainer in the heavyweight division. Hilairious press conferences. Actualy shows his PERSONALITY. Sings at ringside. None of that Fake hard man fasade people like Danny Dyer, Ray Winstone and Roy Keane have.

Broke the stereotype of heavyweight fighters. Does not seem to be restricted by PR training. Made the most of his talent.

Given Andy Murray's prominence in winning the Davis Cup for GB I think he will be the winner with the team taking the team award. Tyson Fury will possibly be second ahead of Lewis Hamilton but I wouldn't be surprised to see those positions reversed.

Made up for Kevin Sinfield, I don't think he will win or even if he should win but deserves his place in the shortlist, Rugby League often gets overlooked in things ike this but he is the ultimate professional in a very tough sport, I hope he comes in the top 3, he'll be getting my vote.
Unfortunately there will be a huge number of people who simply do not know who he is or what he has achieved over the past decade, although I have to say I was delighted to see such a minority sport even represented in the list wink

A truly humble and modest man who has led his team to a phenomenal amount of success - at times against all the odds. How about this for a career:-
18 years with the same club. Made captain at the age of 23
527 games for the club, scoring 4003 points
14 GB caps - 34 points
27 England caps - 202 points
7 Super League titles in the last 11 years
3 League Leaders Shields
2 Challenge Cups
3 World Club Challenges
1 Golden Boot
2 Harry Sunderland awards (MoM in Grand Final)
1 Lance Todd Trophy (MoM in Challenge Cup Final)
MBE

Highest points scorer in Super League and Leeds history
3rd highest points scorer in the history of RL
The team won the treble in his final season

For such a tough sport his longevity is phenomenal and yet he has divided opinion amongst many in the sport. I think many fans of other clubs only saw his kicking game rather than his game management and leadership throughout

Just to say well done "Sir Kev". We are going to miss you next year!

No BBC coverage, no slots.

Danny Kent has done something no other British Motorcycle racer has done for 38yrs. We've had more recent world champions in WSB and Speedway, but 38yrs with a handful of race wins and he delivers a World Championship in a motor racing category, particularly that one where it's not 70% about the machine.

I know there are multiple world champions who will be mentioned, honoured etc.... But how many of the so called minority sports have waited that long for another World Champion.

Funny how the BBC had Toseland on stage etc etc when they covered the GP's, now they don't I wonder what coverage it'll attract.

I think it's a joke that Anthony Crolla didn't even make the shortlist.

A year ago he was on the eve of a title fight. His neighbour phones him to say his house alarm is going off and could he have a look. On investigating it turned out his neighbours house was in fact being burgled. Anthony confronted the intruders who then legged it, being a boxer I suspect Ant didn't have to try hard to catch up. Caught one and was holding him until the police arrived, the other smashed a concrete slab over his head cracking his skull and breaking his ankle. He could have been killed, but not only that but his dream of a title fight was over with there being no option but to cancel it.

Fast forward 12 months and he has managed to come back from his injuries, trained even harder, got his title shot and was shafted by judges on a surprising points decision. Not to be deterred he took on another title shot, and won.

Nobody deserves this award more than Crolla, for his dedication and commitment to come back from serious injury, but because of the character of the guy for selflessly helping out a neighbour.

For Fury to make the list ahead of Crolla is an absolute disgrace.

it used to be such a great event one of the highlights of the year but now the BBC have put their mark on it and its an absolute shambles.

I think the lack of credibility or interest is because of there is no public involvement in the shortlist, if someone could be bothered I think they could also prove a bias toward sports that the BBC cover.

indeed we will.

be great if he could get into the top 3 but doubt it. there are just much better known candidates on the list.

murray will probably bag it for the davis cup and or they will get team of the year despite the fact it was pretty much a one man team...sorry jamie...

there are alot of good candidates but I struggle with the concept of BBC sports personality of the year... in a few years the only sport on the beeb will be masters cup tennis and under 19s womens' soccer.....

as much as MOTD is a great tradition the highlights concept and the amount of football they actually show is frankly a joke

didn't princess doodah win a few years back 2006, I think that was the moment for me. Not a fan of
Andy Murray but he has done something special this year in the Davis Cup. Not sure what sport the BBC do anymore. Probably best to take out the word "personality" out of the award because when you think of Botham,Mansell,Thompson etc these are personalities the modern sportsperson are anything but

I've never voted for this pile of steaming st of a show before, however Fury is definitely going to get my vote. Not afraid to speak his mind, couldn't give a st about what other people think, and he's a bona fide world champion. Just as long as Hamilton doesn't get it either - dullest man in the dullest sport.

So in summary over the year Crolla got injured in a fight with burglars, lost a boxing match then won a fight to become champion. Does that really sound like a SPOTY winner?

He didn't lose...he got shafted by the judges who called the first fight a draw. He got a rematch and knocked him out.

We all know that whoever puts these list things together had no clue of the background of Fury, but he won the world title a day or so before the announcement so shoved him on the list. I'm guessing they are regretting that now!
