He didn't lose...he got shafted by the judges who called the first fight a draw. He got a rematch and knocked him out.
We all know that whoever puts these list things together had no clue of the background of Fury, but he won the world title a day or so before the announcement so shoved him on the list. I'm guessing they are regretting that now!
OK so he had 1 drawn match and 1 win. That's still not outstanding whatever your opinion of the judges. We all know that whoever puts these list things together had no clue of the background of Fury, but he won the world title a day or so before the announcement so shoved him on the list. Agree with you about Fury tho. I might have voted for him before I heard his recent comments.

In isolation a draw and a win isn't much to write about, but it's not like he won a UK title or something...he's a World Champion. Still pretty impressive in my book.

I just think that to come back from something that could have killed him, let alone ended his career, to become a World Champion is quite special. Add in the fact that his setback was because of a selfless act shows the character of the guy.
Whilst Fury has been coming out with the comments he has, Crolla has been visiting school kids and helping out at gyms in his local area. But then you never hear about the good things people do in the news, it's just the controversial comments that make the headlines.
I know opinions are like aholes, but I think he's much more deserving of a nomination for the award than Fury is.
Agree with the comments made about Crolla. If we are talking about the personality, never give up attitude etc. to come back and win a title having been on the receiving end of a close decision in the first fight he is up there. I hope they single him out for a special award or mention given what he has gone through to climb back to the top of his sport.
I have an issue with the term 'sports personality' though. Are we voting for the personality? Or the best sports person? If Murray wins it (as I predict he will) due to single handedly winning the Davis Cup and the amount of media coverage that has had recently then I can't think of a more dour Scotsman to win the award. Not really a media darling is he? Although I'd suggest his sporting achievement is probably the finest. Tough year though as Chris Froome, Jess Ennis and others have all had very fine years in their sports.

Personality has 3 different meanings, this always comes up ' how can so and so win it as he/she has no personality'.The following two meanings from the dictionary clear it up.
A celebrity or famous person.
The quality or fact of being a person as distinct from a thing or animal.

Exactly please.
[This is a bit like the other media/social media jamboree being played out.]
Edit: Is this what you refer too?

Exactly this. It is a gender neural term for a bod.The following two meanings from the dictionary clear it up.

It is funny though to twist the meaning to point out that Andy Murray is miserable git and Lewis Hamilton has about as much personality as a beige wall.

Fury has to win it.... surely
After apparently saying that 'a woman's best place is in the kitchen or on her back'? He may have peed half of the voters with that quote.Completely agree with other posts that Crolla is more deserving even though the achivement itself isn't 'as' great.

Surely the absence of Rachel Atherton on the shortlist goes to show that the nominees are decided purely on the amount of TV coverage their sports get?
For those who don't know who she is, she is the 2015 women's Downhill Mountain Biking British and World Champion, and also won 6 out of 7 World Cup rounds, and finished in second place in the other.
I doubt any other British sportsperson has been so dominant in their sport this year, and to actually demonstrate some personality as well, at the moment of her crowning glory for the year, when any other sportsperson would've been up onto the podium like a rat up a drainpipe, she carried Emmeline Ragot - the only rider to beat her all season, who had announced her retirement through injury - onto the podium with her so that she could get the send off she deserved from the fans.
All in all, a pretty amazing athlete in a brutal sport which requires more nerve, skill and outright bravery than 99.9% of us will ever have, but doubtless one of many who just happens to be doing their thing in non-televised sports.
