Three British drivers on the F1 grid and not a mention, or any other motorsport for that, but this is the BBC
And of course, Red Bull are an Austrian aren’t they…. Oh wait.Wasn’t the footballist who won abusing the referee a week or two back?

Good day out for the BBC luvvies
I do not think it will be long before it is gotten rid of, surely anyone can see it has long since been a show about real achievement in UK sport, it has been basically about achievement in sport the BBC cover for a long time and is now a gender based box ticking exercise for the top executives.at the BBC to feel smug and show they are being as fair as possible after decades of treating women poorly in the BBC.
It is everywhere in BBC content, I listen to 5 Live on my commute they ring a fan to talk about a match. 9 times out of 10 it is a woman, is that representative of what you see at any football match?
I get it, i really do but times they go far too far with this stuff

Are you saying they are biased towards sports people who they actually show on TV ?It’s a farce of an award anyway. Owen and Giggs previous winners ffs.
The same applies nowadays for football, especially now they’re promoting the women’s game.

You don't think that a Women's Heptathlon World Champion is a strong contender?
I seriously couldn't see anyone better than KJT for the win.
Very like when Ryan Giggs won in 2009, when Jensen Button was F1 champion and Jessica Ennis Hill was Heptahlon World Champion - ridiculous.
VMT, fully agree. KJT becoming world champion after so many serious injury issues was a real achievement. Certainly compared to being part of a losing World Cup final team when (given the resources in Women’s football in England) anything less than winning it was effectively a failure. A complete farce of a result for SPOTY (imo), it amazes me that the British public could come to such a conclusion (…if indeed it was purely the public vote that ultimately decided it- the BBC’s desire to push the very limited selection of sports that they do cover does tend to encourage a slightly cynical viewpoint).I seriously couldn't see anyone better than KJT for the win.

I think it’s been the case for a long time. I remember a quite lengthy interview with Greg Rusedski, winner of nothing of note, followed by a brief chat with Richard Burns who was the current world rally champion. TTmonkey said:
Sports Personality of the year.
Not best winner of the year.
KJT comes across like some kind of wet blanket I thought.
Also it's a popular vote, and lots of people vote for who they like based on the sport they watch. That's what I did. I like cricket, I like Stuart Broad, so voted for him. Didn't do any analysis on who deserved it more. Not best winner of the year.

Football and Cricket have the highest number of viewers and so will always have an advantage. Athletics is a lot lower in terms of viewership.

If anyone actually thinks its not engineered by the BBC they are a tad naive. People don't vote anymore. Not since Bob Nudd won the popular vote but the BBC changed the rules to stop him...
You really believe that the BBC rig the vote? theplayingmantis said:

Mary Earps then.
Well deserved.
Why is it well deserved? Best PR yes. What has she done to deserve it? Won anything, conceded a terrible goal vs. Holland?Well deserved.
Baffled by such a statement.
I think Broad should’ve won it - he’s achieved much more over many years than the other two (and I’m a cricket player and Notts supporter).
All that aside, I see Barton really has had a meltdown, so alls well that ends well.
I do feel the whole concept is in its death throes- this used to be the flagship of Christmas at the BBC always held on the last Saturday night before Christmas.
Now it’s pushed to a Tuesday night.
