i think the top 3 were spot on actually, and wiggo is fast becoming a legend...

i thought the seb coe moment was very nice indeed as it gave sportstars and the public the chance to just stand and applaud the man.

a public acknowledgment if you will...a nice touch indeed

Why? Serious question BTW.

Not bitter (which it will no doubt sound like I am and if it was a personality thing in a true sense, fine), just feels like an element of the moment & the power of Rupert TV.
How is he so much better than some of the others - Ainslee, Weir etc?

Had he done the TdF thing on his lonesome and/or multiple times, fair enough. However, rather well supported to get there.

He isn't better per se, different. Some things that a lot of people don't know :

Only cyclist to win the Paris–Nice, Tour de Romandie, Critérium du Dauphiné and Tour de France in the same yearr — achieved this feat in 2012

Only cyclist to have the Tour de France and an Olympic gold medal in the same year — achieved this feat in 2012.

Great Britain's joint most decorated Olympian along with Chris Hoy with seven medals, surpassing Steve Redgrave's six medals.

So all of those things (you wouldn't probably have known about the first, or likely the other two either, because they don't get big media attention). He was also the first brit to EVER win the tour, and did so in style, crushing people in the time trials, yes he had a team, but everyone has a team in cycling, especially in a race that lasts 3 weeks.

But I would say that his training and sacrifice is going to be a lot more than most of the other contenders, training is one thing, but taking yourself away from your family most of the year, sleeping in altitude tents in your own house, getting to 68kg when you're 6,3 (that alone is probably harder than anything most of the shortlist have done commitment wise) and then actually delivering on all stages over the course of a year (not just one night, or a couple of days) makes it more impressive for me. And of course, he comes across as a nice enough bloke with something about him.

Possibly, but it would be incredibly hard to do that, whilst maintaining an engine like that.

Farah was a surprise, his 2 golds were worthy of better. I reckon his PR let him down

I don't think they did, he was on EVERY chat show under the sun after the olympics, doing that fking mobot wherever he went, I think ultimately people can see through it. And obviously he's brown, which lots of people probably still hold against him.

I was pleasantly surprised Murray broke into the top 3 and very lucky that they got the trophy already in Miami for him!

Time to resurrect this thread I hope Lewis wins it, but I have a feeling it will be the footballer or golfer.

Special mention should be made as we have British
F1, GP2, GP3 and WEC world champions and second place in WSB

I guess it will be Lewis too.
However, I would say Charlotte Dujardin is a worthy winner.
World, European and Olympic champion at the same time.
2 Golds this year.

Charlotte Dujardin would be a fair choice based on what she and the horse have won. But I don't think the people will vote for the sport (or the horse).

My pick would be Rory McIlroy. He's beaten hundreds of extremely talented people to become world No. 1 and won 2 of the years 4 majors.

No way should it be Lewis Hamilton. An ill-tempered and petulant narrow victory in a two-horse race.

It's got to be between Lewis and Rory but I have a feeling Rory will just edge it. He's been on another level this season and completely dominated every time he's played well.
