So was he just exaggerating for maternal sympathy - he rang her that night, I guess maybe still drunk - or something and it then all got out of hand?
ought to know better than to tell porkies to your mother. Especially if she might repeat your stories to someone with the ability and motivation to fact-check them!

Very odd indeed. If they had said nothing at all then probably no one would have noticed and it would be a non story. I enjoyed the Olympics, but there were issues particularly around the lack of attendance.
With the gap between the two events interest could wain to the point where it really is embarrasing.
I know UK broadcasters will get behind it but it really could show Brazil in a poor light.
What do others think?
