I do struggle to reverse park when someone's watching, so I understand the driver's plight

Good.

He's a pathetic tw@t.
$50k was just a portion of his fee. He's lost 3 more sponsors since. Tw@t is correct.
Just peculiar - I would love to know why they made it all up? One presumes their ego couldn't deal with everyone else knowing the slightly embarrassing reality - when in truth the not even front page headlines of 'US swimmers behave in embarrassing fashion whilst drunk' would have long been consigned to the bin a week ago and their lives would be back to normal.

An utterly bizarre decision. But the ego is a funny thing I guess.

Just a peculiar set of affairs

It all unraveled after his mum spoke to the press, right?

So was he just exaggerating for maternal sympathy - he rang her that night, I guess maybe still drunk - or something and it then all got out of hand?

nono ought to know better than to tell porkies to your mother. Especially if she might repeat your stories to someone with the ability and motivation to fact-check them! paperbag

Very odd indeed. If they had said nothing at all then probably no one would have noticed and it would be a non story. Making the story up and then continue to maintain they were "robbed" after just makes him look like such a wker.

I think he believes he was "robbed" and shouldn't have had to pay for the damage he did.

Worse of all it drew attention away from the fact that some athletes actually were robbed at gun point.

Let's face it, he's been someone's special snowflake since an early age, with his various medals he's been treated as the nation's special snowflake, and probably believed he's therefore the world's special snowflake because 'Merkin. Unfortunately one piece of tttery undoes all that, and costs them in many ways, ref Tiger Woods et al.

This I suspect.

Pissed up and acts like a moron. Knows it will make the press, doesn't want his momma to think he's acted like a moron. So lies to her expecting that to be the end of it. Only momma won't let it drop.

FiF's version also works smile

Either way, he's a prize dhead - gold medal quality biggrin

Totally brilliant biggrin

The more bemusing thing in all this now is why any professional sporting kit company wanted to sponsor him in the first place without insisting on him doing no interviews!

Paralympics.

I enjoyed the Olympics, but there were issues particularly around the lack of attendance.

With the gap between the two events interest could wain to the point where it really is embarrasing.

I know UK broadcasters will get behind it but it really could show Brazil in a poor light.

What do others think?

My sister works for channel 4 and there is growing concern there about the whole thing. Brazil just aren't that interested compared to the main event.

I think it's gonna be a clusterfk, undeservedly so.

I rather ambitiously went and set up a separate Paralympics thread if folk want it, here.

I love the olympics. I love seeing the best in the world do what they do and continually doing what, to a mere mortal, seems impossible.

The Paralympics however just does nothing for me. It's a bit like loving premier league football but not being interested in the lower divisions.
