Olazabal on what he learnt from Ballesteros: "No quitting, face adversity and what true passion is all about. Seve, we miss you.'

Some of the vitriol around this event is distasteful. I can imagine what the crowd will be like. I think I may watch with the sound down.

Getting excited now, liked the confident aura we seemed to give off compared to the yanks when the teams were introduced. Not worried about form, this competition can have massive effects on players psyche, good or bad.I'm going for us to retain,by the narrowest of margins.

Suprised how they are allowed to change the width of the fairways, 1st and 2nd cuts widened etc to suit their strengths? How is that sportsmanship?

Interesting course summary and analysis from Colin Montgomerie. The Yanks have set the fairways much wider and reduced the rough, with the ball being able to sit up pretty no matter how wide you hit it pretty much. CM saying that they are essentially turning it into a putting competition, and the stats do show that the Americans make less putts per round on average than the Europeans.

I wonder if the US will be smart enough to try to make sure tiger doesn't have to tee off too many times... he has been very wayward off the tee recently...

irons ok...

Shouldn't that be take less puts/average less putts per round?

Oh yeah, I can see how what I said is ambiguous, you're right of course and that's what I meant.
