Always thought there was a whiff of Obersturmführer about him. A little ironic I know being Swiss, but see him standing on a station, Alsatian, cane and jackboots.

Best player I have ever seen hit a ball.

The first semi final isn't much of a contest thus far. Might not last an hour.

Barring a miraculous comeback it's going to be Muguruza that Konta/Williams play in the final. Getting ahead of myself I know but Konta has won the last two vs Muguruza.

As for Fed and his smugness, arrogance, pompousness etc well most sportsmen at the top of their game are/were the same. Muhammad Ali, Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Tiger Woods etc all exhibit similar personality traits - it probably helped them get as far as they did.

Konta is so composed and seemingly relaxed. Very impressive!

Pleased Venus won so I don't have to listen to everyone pretending Konta is British because it drives me mad...she's Australian plain and simple.

I can see her going further next year. Outgunned today but a lot of experience gained.

Well those Australians can't cheer on on their players Bernard Tomic, Daria Gavrilova or Arina Rodionova any more this year either.

Venus really rolled back the years with her display and Konta couldn't match her.

As disappointed as I am that Konta lost, and nothing against Mugaruza, I'd really like to see Venus win on Saturday now.

Edit - Heather & Henri through again woohoo

Bit harsh. she's no different to Andrew Strauss, Mo Farah, John Barnes, Justin Rose etc.

Henri and Heather had a great match in the doubles. Pity about Konta.
Really enjoyed it. They seemed to have a much better connection with each other than their opponents did. Mind you Heather is so smiley it's hard not to like her I think!

Venus - total class. Surprised Konta didn't have the grace to wait for her opponent before she walked off court.

Venus was great to watch. Hits the ball properly too. Was at Wimbledon on Monday. I was really surprised how soft the girls hit it. First serves mainly 105 mph-ish apart from one or two players. Second serves 70-85 mph.

They have plenty of skill, and get a lot of balls back. Rallies are long because it is all baseline and they don't miss a lot given the speed it is being hit back at.

Hope Venus wins this one.

Ii want Venus to win. She has played immaculately throughout the tournament so far. I admire Serena but much prefer Venus's style of play.

Thought Venus played solidly, kept a good length on the ball and stood way inside the line to receive so fair play to her for that.

The occasion got to Konta today and she had no other game plan...I know she comes across as very polite and respectful but she's also pretty ruthless when it comes to her tennis journey and she was pretty dissapointed with her display I think.

In other news, had my first Local Tennis League match of the year last night.

Great game, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 7-5.

I came back from 2-5 down in the final set with my opponent having a match point.

One of the best games I've played in a while, good baseline rallies and also a bit of volleyball at the net.

Just need to sort out the rest of my matches now!

you are quite right, they may be close to average speed of groundies but it is a much 'heavier' ball being hit by the blokes, a lot more work on the ball, I occasionally hit with ex wta players (in the 500-800 ranking range) and I have no problem at all but atp players no way and I am just an decent middle aged hack! Plus I think the men hold back on pace a little bit to achieve spin, angle etc whereas the women smack it as hard as they can everytime! Yes one forehand from Nadal and it would be pretty much over! What does annoy me about wta players at the moment is their total inability to volley...
