In other news, had my first Local Tennis League match of the year last night.

Great game, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 7-5.

I came back from 2-5 down in the final set with my opponent having a match point.

One of the best games I've played in a while, good baseline rallies and also a bit of volleyball at the net.

Just need to sort out the rest of my matches now!
good win, clutch!

So what?
Looked pretty obvious to me which is comparisons between the mens and womens game, which there will always be.

Some like to discuss it, some don't give a damn...each to their own.

Henri & Heather brilliant match again in the mixed doubles, some epic points. Their progress to the final and Konta have been the highlights of the tournament for me.
Agreed. The mixed doubles final should be great watch as Jamie & Martina have been on very good form in their progress too.

Looking forward to Federer / Cilic too - I reckon that will go 5 sets.

One problem I have with the girls game is - it's all over a bit too quick. It leaves you feeling a bit cheated.

And of course there's the fairness aspect where they don't have to play so many sets to earn the same £2.2 million for winning the final.

Women's tennis remains as dire as Tracy Austins facelift. Apologies, but it's simply awful to watch.
Mixed, Men's Doubles, singles fine....but women's singles. No.

It always does look a bit beaten up by finals, not surprisingly but they have struggled with it more this year possibly due to the extremely warm temperatures a few weeks ago.

I thought the courts looked as if the grass was going to be poor from day 2 when the baselines were already wearing. It's just mud on the Center court now. I haven't heard the BBC commentators mention it & I wonder if they have been told to keep quiet.

I've also never seen so many poor bounces with not just shots off the frame but complete swing & miss. At times you'd have thought Moeen Ali was on the other side of the net.

The BBC did mention, briefly, the quality of the surface this year. Some players weren't happy either.

They discussed it a fair bit after one of Djokovic's matches as he was actually highlighting some divots in the court.

Good catch of the ball from a guy in the spectators. Judging by the way he caught the ball and then held the ball to throw it back I'd guess he was a bit of a cricketer (watching men's doubles at the mo)

We are just watching the mens invitation doubles on the red button, including Henri Leconte. Its fair to say they are not taking it too seriously. Brilliant..

Whilst I am not a massive tennis fan I would have felt cheated yesterday if I'd paid a load of a quids to see the women's final and ended up seeing that sort of capitulation.

With the issues surrounding injury withdrawal, poor grass and a disappointing final I think tennis needs to ask itself a few questions.

Or have I missed something, as a casual observer?

Possibly, though I think the men's doubles match that followed it more than made up for the disappointing womens final. I would have been happy.

They have said for a while the tennis circuit is a grueling one if you want your points for ranking. We see the showy grand slams what we often don't see is all the tennis they play in between, it is a year round sport, Maybe that needs addressing.
