I agree Zverev has all the tools to be a slam winner, just has to get better at the 5 setters

Federer has tweeaked his back, I don't think he was ever going to beat Zverev as he looked lacklustre the whole tournament but you could see it in the second set, he was just rolling his serves in and not really pushing to get to balls, kinda glad it happened here and not at Cinicnatti or a few days before US

there are some great hi res vis on you tube at the moment of Fed 05/06/07 sorry but he was better back then, peak Fed!!

realise that the top players have been dropping like flies but a good win for Grigor yesterday, had the pleasure to meet him before Wimby at the NTC, a nice guy and fully deserved with all the work he puts in...

No doubt at all that Dimitrov has the talent and good to see him win a Masters 1000; yes it was against a weakened field but you can only beat who's in front of you and he did that. The question in my mind is will he be able to back it up with consistent results or will he now have several indifferent tournaments before he comes good again - hopefully not but only time will tell.

Kyrios is another player who has the talent but does he have the application it takes to get to the very top? At the moment I'm yet to be convinced but again only time will tell!

It's very quiet in here.

A bit of a surprising lineup in the US open semi finals:

Nadal - Del Potro
Anderson - Pablo Carreno

&

V Williams - Stephens
Keys - Coco V.

What a dire, one sided final. A sign of things to come perhaps? We've been spoiled by Djokovic, Federer, Nadal and Murray in recent years. And now we have journeymen like Kevin Anderson making slam finals.

Yes and apparently he's followed-up that petulant display in the Beijing final by walking off court after losing the first set tie-break in his second round match in Shanghai! No injury forcing his retirement, just unhappy some calls hadn't gone his way - seems he'd been muttering about quitting if he ended-up losing the set and he did!

He is without doubt a real talent but he just lets himself down time and time again. People will have paid good money to watch an afternoon's tennis in a Masters 1000 event and surely they're entitled to expect better than that?

I'm not so sure re 'super talented'. His foot movement is dire at times, so he tries the impossible ..at the wrong time too. Rafa just rolled them back in.

His signature open stance, flat footed flatter than flat haymaker forehand, comes off 30% of the time at best. He hits some with his right foot in front of his left, he's way too open.

Mentally, he's a busted flush. Think he knows he's not good enough as well, so plays the 'cant be arsed' card to cover.

I was taking in terms of timing and natural ability, touch and feel. The rest requires hard work, technically yes he is lacking. I actually enjoy watching him play when is is not being an arse!

I think he could be good enough just does no work, he looks unfit too.

'Rolling back' is a relative term when it comes to the Rafa we are seeing at the moment, he just looks unbeatable!

Not sure re the 'touch and feel' either. His drops were appalling. He plays to the crowd, trying to wow. Reminds me of the top flight 18 year olds up the club. Stick 3 girls top watch in the cheap seats and the old timers beat them every time as every ball is back fence.
He's unmanageable it seems, with little respect held for his bench.
Agree he looks unfit, but also agree that to be in top 21, a County Player would win no more than 5 points a set.

So another title for Federer today at his home event in Basel and that moves him to 2nd on his own in the all time list (at 95 he's now 1 ahead of Lendl and 14 behind the all-time record of 109 held by Connors). ) Personally I never thought anyone would get within striking distance of that record held by Connors but I'm now thinking Fed might actually beat it as if he plays for another two or three seasons - and stays reasonably free from injury - I can certainly see him winning another 15 titles.

What he's achieved already is remarkable but to get to 110 titles in such a competitive era really would be quite outstanding!

Isn't Thiem shocking on hard courts?! He's got not chance in the finals.. Also, I hope Carreno-Busta doesn't qualify as he's probably the dullest player on tour.

it is astonishing that he is playing so well, he has skipped Paris but probably a good move, save me from looking them all up what were the quality of Connors titles?!

Djokovic injured already on his comeback. Murray not looking all that more effective at this early stage of his comeback. I'm thinking Federer and Nadal again in Melbourne and Paris with potentially Murray and Djokovic doing well in Wimbledon and New York.

No clear signs of how Nishikori, Wawrinka and Raonic might compete on their comebacks. Could be a very interesting season as it progresses.

So Murray's hip is still not right. It has been a long time - sounds like he might need a new hip then. Could this be career ending?

Going by his instagram post things don't sound very good.

Murray said:
Hey everyone.. Just wanted to write a little message on here for anyone interested in what in going through right now. Firstly I want to apologise to @brisbanetennis for withdrawing at late notice and to everyone who wanted to come along to watch me play(or lose😇) The organisers couldn't have been more understanding and supportive and I'll always remember that. Thank you. I've obviously been going through a really difficult period with my hip for a long time and have sought council from a number of hip specialists. Having been recommended to treat my hip conservatively since the US Open I have done everything asked of me from a rehab perspective and worked extremely hard to try get back on the court competing. Having played practice sets here in Brisbane with some top players unfortunately this hasn't worked yet to get me to the level I would like so I have to reassess my options. Obviously continuing rehab is one option and giving my hip more time to recover. Surgery is also an option but the chances of a successful outcome are not as I high as I would like which has made this my secondary option and my hope has been to avoid that. However this is something I may have to consider but let's hope not. I choose this pic as the little kid inside me just wants to play tennis and Compete.. I genuinely miss it so much and i would give anything to be back out there. I didn't realise until these last few months just how much I love this game. Everytime I wake up from sleeping or napping i hope that it's better and it's quite demoralising when you get on the court it's not at the level you need it to be to compete at this level. In the short term I'm going to be staying in Australia for the next couple of days to see if my hip settles down a bit and will decide by the weekend whether to stay out here or fly home to assess what I do next. Sorry for the long post but I wanted to keep everyone in the loop and get this off my chest as it's really hurting inside. Hope to see you back on the court soon 🎾😢❤️
