We also wont need to suffer their third narrative that of Federer being "better than ever". Always a bit of a dubious assertion to me, as where are all the other mid thirties football and tennis players who are better than ever?
He has adapted to a new racket and is serving well and hitting his backhand well. This is not to say he is "better than ever" as that ignores both the physical and mental aspects of a competitive match. Since a very good performance in the Australian Open Federer had been playing average all the year going into this Wimbledon.
I am sure that after he retires Federer will continue to light up the senior circuit with some of the shots he can play. That wont mean he should go and face whoever is the latest mid twenties something to dominate the game.
If this game prevents the other semi from finishing today, or even from starting today, both of which scenarios you can easily see happening, it will level up the stamina playing field for the final as neither finalist will have had much of a break.
As we know from the Mahut marathon, Isner is a master of looking knackered when he actually isn't.
