Presumably there could potentially be a weakness there now, and if he injures his hip again he will be finished - so he's just being cautious.
Yes, but he shouldn't be back on the competitive court in that case. Every sport I've ever known has always insisted you don't come back before you are 100% fit. He has done that and is now making himself out to be some sort of tortured hero or at least the media are. cb1965 said:

Good friend of mine is a world-renowned sports photographer specialising in athletics and cycling. He told me that top class athletes are 'injured' pretty much all the time. It's all about managing the injuries.
I'd be amazed if more than two rugby players in a match would genuinely be injury free.Umpire in trouble for coaching Nick Kyrgios mid match.

It was pretty ridiculous.... no idea what the umpire was thinking. If I’d have been the other player I’d have been standing there saying ‘WTF?’ or words to that effect... Kyrgios is a talented player but too often a petulant child (so will likely not reach his potential), but shouldn’t be getting kid glove treatment like this.https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/45375202

Looks like another Nadal/Djokovic Slam final coming up.
Poor Federer’s body let him down the other night although to be fair players half his age have been struggling with the conditions at the US Open this year.
He would first need to be in a position to be drawn into a long battle of attrition. Poor Federer’s body let him down the other night although to be fair players half his age have been struggling with the conditions at the US Open this year.
The courts don't help and a few rounds in one of the commentators said the courts were playing so slow that Federer didn't have much of a chance.
I think as well that not only the physical aspect suffers with age, but the mental as well. Federer has clearly been struggling to handle stress all year.
Ban the bh!! Seriously, so far up her own arse. She thinks she is bigger than the game, but when she had a sprog, the game continued.
I wish she would fk right off tbh.
And as for the crowd booing at the presentation. What a bunch of unsporting s. "best crowd in the world" according to the petulant Williams!!

Why did she get the game docked? For calling the ump a thief? Sounds OTT from the ump.
Summary from BBC:First Serena Williams was given a code violation for coaching when her coach Patrick Mouratoglou appeared to make a gesture to her.
Serena argued with the umpire saying "I don't cheat" and then the game resumed.
A few games later Serena Williams smashed her racquet after losing a game. She was given a violation. This one meant Osaka was awarded a point.
Serena then argued with the umpire again. She said "you owe me an apology" among other things.
Serena then argued again and called umpire Carlos Ramos a "thief".
As a result Ramos gave Serena another violation for verbal abuse. This meant Osaka was awarded a game.
Serena then called for the tournament referee and was crying on court.
No further action was taken by the referee and two games later Osaka sealed the win.

Having been caught being coached, then smashing a racket up, having a point penalty, she then called him a thief and then told him he would "never work on one of HER courts ever again". Stupid cow I'd have DQ'd here there and then. Disgraceful. Like McEnroe, only with a bigger lunchbox! Sadly Williams has form for this kind of behaviour - remember the line judge incident?
Awful behaviour, that fully deserves a disrepute charge and ban.
Won't happen though.
In the absence of any apology or ban, perhaps Wimbledon could politely decline to accept any entrance to next years event.

She's similar to Sebastian Vettel. Nice, can be funny etc when doing well. If they lose or feel they have been slighted then it can go badly wrong - what we saw tonight, or for example Vettel deliberately driving into the side of Hamilton. They also get off with it a bit more as they're such big names so the sport won't really punish them due to it dropping the popularity with their fans. Was probably me, which she is. When she’s in competition mode though she turns into an absolute beast. You daren’t say hello or look her way in the player’s tunnel that’s for sure!
Very happy for Osaka getting her first (of many to come) slams, that was my pick after seeing how she played Serena in their previous match. She’s not unbeatable, far from it, but most of women play a very similar game with very little shot variety. Serena eats that up all day long.
I really don’t like the tournaments and media overhyping, overlooking and not giving the due respect to athletes beside the 4-5 they spend their entire marketing budgets on promoting. The other players don’t dedicate their lives to simple exist to fill the draw..
ETA: Having just read about the award ceremony just heightens my contempt.
USTA Predisdent’s ceremony speach: “Perhaps it’s not the finish we were looking for today,” Adams said, “but Serena, you are a champion of all champions.” Addressing the crowd, Adams added, “This mama is a role model and respected by all.”
Followed by Serena:
“Let’s try to make this the best moment we can,” she said in part, “and we’ll get through it . . . let’s not boo anymore. We’re gonna get through this and let’s be positive, so congratulations, Naomi.”
Osaka accepted her trophy while choking back tears. She never smiled. When asked if her childhood dream of playing against Williams matched the reality, she politely sidestepped the question.
“I’m sorry,” Osaka said. “I know that everyone was cheering for her and I’m sorry it had to end like this.”
She turned to Williams. “I’m really grateful I was able to play with you,” Osaka said. “Thank you.” She bowed her head to Williams, and Williams just took it — no reciprocation, no emotion.
