I was very tempted by a 686 as i'd been shooting with my friends SP deluxe, which felt very nice indeed.

I ended up at Donaldson's in MK where they handed me a 690, which is apparently the replacement for the 686 SP deluxe which they no longer produce, and was again very tempting indeed.

But instead i somehow ended up with a S/H Browning b425 grade 6 sporter later that day from Oxford Gun.

I'm glad i bought a big cabinet... biggrin

Probably wise new Beretta quality isn't getting great reports currently.

Depends on the club.

The small friendly sporting clay club I go to wouldn't, I've seen a couple of guys using 'practical spec' semi's there and it's not even an issue. But I also know a few other clubs/facilities local to me where it certainly would be frowned upon!
Largely why I travel out of London to go to the one I go rather than either of the two places 'just down the road' laugh

I must confess I don't enjoy seeing them, they are such a horrible field gun, so hard to know if it's really safe.

Semi autos are often used for trap shooting, but not much for sporting. I had an AL390 for a while but never really got on with it.

If you want to have a go with a semi-auto just ignore the snobbery and get on with it! A chamber flag is a good way to prove it's clear if that's all people are concerned about. Oh and don't be tempted to load or shoot more than 2 at a time.

A friend of mine had a pump action he took down to his local sporting clays ground. The owner would hear this thing being cycled and always come over and give him grief about it. biggrin

I have something like this

I would have preferred an over and under but this was cheap and there and fit me well.

Can't be arsed cleaning the action. Just two tubes would have been better. Cleaning guns has very quickly become a chore

I enjoy making bullets

Although I think I'm going to have to cut down the ammout I'm shooting makeing 200 .44 and 50 308 on a single stage press is also getting a bit much.

I'm asking santa for a fancy powder dispenser.

Bought one of the RCBS auto doowitts some years ago. Brilliant piece of kit and very accurate. For gallery rifle the Lee autodisk does fine.

Theraputic - hand casting. Once I get in the flow .30 cal and .45 heads take your mind off anything else going on (just mind the fumes - flibble)

They're extremely common in the field and well used, especially FAC with bismuth.

I'm asking for a lyman gen 6 auto measure.

Funny how for the last 27 years of getting socks because we don't know what to buy you has changed now I've presented them with a list but but.

Anyway I have a lee 3 position auto press thingy had some bits missing bought it from eBay . When I get organised I'll give it a whirl.

The problem is:

A) few people put the flag in between finishing on the stand and turning around/placing the gun in the slip/putting it down whatever
B) they aren't easily visible from a distance/from any angle (unlike an open gun)

They may well be but it doesn't change my opinion, especially having someone waving one around trying to clear some sort of issue - I think they are a horrible field gun - you just wouldn't get that with an OU or S/S.

You could say the same about all my other sporting rifles as they don't break open either.

True but I thought the discussion was about shotguns? So far no one has brought a rifle to a clay shoot I've been at!

I've never used a rifle in a sporting context (target only) but I would imagine the context is quite different from the clay ground/game shoot scenario.

Someone/you (I think?) asked if people would object to use of a semi auto - I've explained why I don't really like them, but I certainly wouldn't try to prevent someone using one.

Haven't really got to grips with my Franchi Affinity semi-automatic that I've had for over a year and not really used, far prefer my old Japanese Nikko Shadow O/U from the '70s.

Does look good though. biggrin
