I was really tempted by something cap and ball especially now I have the store and transport permit for black powder but it is the thought of the cleaning that puts me off, how do you find it? Is the old adage "10 minutes to load, 1 minute to shoot and an hour to clean" anywhere near true? My Martini Henry, being black powder, certainly takes a while to clean.

No take handle off. Soak it all in boing soapy water for ten minutes scrub out with bottle brush leave to dry then patch with oil.
Where do you get hold of "boing water" and is it expensive?Some of my friends claim they put theirs in the dishwasher, not sure if it's true or a good idea.

Very nice. Its a bit more shiny than mine.To be honest you will probably find that loading and cleaning it is part of the fun. I still use mine regularly even though I am lucky enough to live somewhere where I can have semi auto handguns.

and cleaning just to make a few booms and lots of smoke is not my idea of fun.Each to their own though.
Rightie... I've got a major urge to by the Walther 22LR copy of the H&K MP5. This one http://www.waltherarms.com/tactical-rimfire-replic...
Distributor has stopped importing them, but there are still a few around.
The problem I'm having is the barrel.... it is pencil thin. Somebody measured it and it is only about 0.35 inch diameter. Considering a .22 inch bullet needs to go down the middle, the wall thickness is tiny. The thicker barrel you can see in the link is a fake moderator and even below that there is a shroud around the pencil thin barrel.
There is a bit of debate about who actually makes it, ie it could be Umarex, who owns Walther who makes it rather than Walther. Umarex mostly make airsoft guns so this could be an airsoft gun which they have put a .22LR action in.
So, it should be a heap of crap.
But there are a lot of online reviews from people who have put thousands of rounds through it, not had problems and think it is the most fun ever.

I've got Peltor Sportacs; I've never had a problem with stock fouling but I guess everyone is shaped differently... maybe find a stockist and try them out?Tonsko said:

Peltor electronic ones are excellent. Not cheap (put your name/mobile on them with a Sharpie - they go walkies). The advantage is that one hears the bird flushing / trap firing with enough clarity to be able to look in the right direction.
Yep - standing on your peg you will hear the dogs rustling through the bushes, the squawk of the pheasant and it flapping towards you long before you see it!You can also eavesdrop on people about 50m away that you would not be able to hear talking. And have a normal conversation with people without taking them off.
They do take a bit of getting used to but I'd never go back to non electric now. Mine are MSA Supreme Pro-X waterproof, they're £200+ but definitely worth it I would say. Plus they keep your ears warm!

I would not worry about it - the gun has to undego a proof test- if its made in germany it will be a CIP proof test which is acceptable - this is your indication that the barrel thickness will not be an issue for the userDistributor has stopped importing them, but there are still a few around.
