It was fitted to the .223 rifle when I bought it, and as it looks cool, it's staying.
Each to their own I suppose - to me a muzzle brake on a rifle that doesn't need it is a bit like a car with no suspension, massive wings, 6" exhaust pipes and a 75bhp diesel engine. I guess some people think that looks cool too.

Depends on the rifle. For regular target shooting, you probably don't need one. For more rapid shooting a good brake can make a .223 feel like a .22 and pretty much eliminate muzzle rise.

For regular target shooting or hunting you definitely don't need one on a 223, recoil and muzzle jump is minimal enough to watch your hits without it. Most people who have 'recoil' issues with a cartridge that small are actually flinching at the noise, and a muzzle brake is only going to make that worse.

For rapid fire it might be useful, but most people where I am would use a suppressor instead and enjoy similar benefits without deafening themselves and everyone else around them (or requiring extra heavy duty hearing protection).

On big magnums etc I can see the appeal, they do reduce recoil/jump more than a suppressor while weighing a lot less and if you're using said magnum for long-range shooting you should have the time to put some good earmuffs on before firing.

Ben, before you start criticising people's taste in guns, maybe you should take a look at the pictures you have on your website, because you obviously think something of them, that you publish them. I know they don't exist, but you are the sad person who has published them ! Yes these are your images. Only saying.

Anyway, aside from the usual PH bhing, the gun I'm currently dreaming about is the Grand Power K22. Anybody got any experience of these?

Yes, there was a somewhat amusing 'make the ugliest/stupidest gun you can think of' thread on another forum a few years ago and some of the pictures were hosted there. Well done sherlock. rolleyes

If you think muzzlebrakes look cool thats fine, taste is always subjective - I'm not a fan of engraved gold-plated shotguns or 'tacticool' AR15s covered with accessories either, but plenty of people seem to like those. Just pointing out that its punishing peoples ears for no real practical benefit, perhaps my intial post came across a bit more harshly than intended.

Right a few more of my recent shooting - Start with AK's, as they are fun!

AK-74. Really nice to shoot as it doesn't kick or climb as much as a 47. But it broke, so much for AK bulletproof reliability

Some local bought this, and look at his happy little face! Bet the muzzle flash from it is wicked!

M1 Garand, and M1 Carbines - both lovely guns to shoot.

That first pic just shows how 'real' my Yunker 4 is. Apart from mine having the standard plastic folding stock complete with tool kit in the butt, they look exactly the same.

The Yunker is a CO2 4.5mm bb firing AK74 built along side the actual thing in the same factory in Russia. It's on their site as a training rifle and weirdly legal in the UK but not in the US.

I know I've posted this before but just in case anyone is new to this thread.

A chap at my club has one. Seems like a nice bit of kit. Loads of people have Browning Buckmark LBPs and really rate them.

I'm eyeing up the new trigger release VZ58 in either .223 or 9mm. It's about time someone dealt with the SGC monopoly!

I really like the look of the Winchester Select with the grey laminate stock. Supposedly a nice gun too. Lincolns are good value too. What are you looking to spend?

As mentioned, a Beretta, Browning or Miroku, you won't go wrong, just go to many shops and pick up many shotguns until you find a couple that feel right, then go and put some shots through them.

Buy a cheap gun if you want to (a), never sell it on, or (b), sell it a massive loss.

Hi there, I was thinking of spending something like 1 to 2k and going Browning or Bereta. I have been told that Browning would suit my build but I'm so new to this it's hard to know what feels right. Ideally I would like something second hand rather than brand new. having said all of the above I went to a shooting fair the other day, and held a rizzini round boddy and loved it but it's a good bit more than I wanted to spend.
