Only a few pics from me as was busy enjoying the day, it was absolutely beautiful. Snow on the ground and sun shining. Couldn't have asked for a better one!
Not a day that was organised or paid for, just a walk round the woods and fields with friends, bagged a few birds, Great fun was had by all and we retired to the village pub for a few pints and a log fire.

If I leave my break barrel air rifle weeks or months without being fired, will this adversely affect it? It's stored uncocked obviously.
It should be OK if it's not in too warmer place as the grease/oil may dry out, I've not fired some of mine for a few years and i'm certain they will be OK Goes without saying that the storage place shouldn't be damp either..

Some of them i've never shot as I had nowhere to shoot after they demolished Herringthorpe leisure centre!!James
I'm a member at Ecclesfield rifle and pistol club now so they're starting to get used now
I don't normally sell them but may be thinning down the collection soon!!
Cheers, John

Very nice. I really fancy adding a WW2 era rifle to my collection at some point. Too bad it can't be a Garand
You can have a Garand in straight pull...... Costs a fair few quid though

The baikal I currently use has 26.5'' barrels. I don't know if it's all in my head but will it be much harder to hit targets further away? I feel like clays off towers, far away, high up or flying away are very difficult for me to hit! Also it doesn't have changeable chokes so can't vary them.
Thinking of going 28 when I get a new one for best of both worlds?

Visited my uncle last weekend and he was telling me about his upcoming safari where he is booked for Cape buffalo. He is having a double rifle made for the trip to take
.458 Winchester Magnum. Ooosh!
McCann Industries do a conversion of the M1 Garand to fire .458 WM.......now that would be a nice toy to take into the bush .458 Winchester Magnum. Ooosh!
Never been too keen on shooting animals before but I would fancy going and shooting some game provided I could eat it after. It's going to have lived a better life than anything you buy in a supermarket or eat in a curry house etc.
Realistically, do people eat the game they shoot? How easy is it to prepare and ensure you don't break your teeth on shot? Any recommendations for places in yorkshire?

It's only really the tweedies that shoot and drop, everyone else I know shoots to eat, be it squirrel, rabbit, goose, duck, deer or whatever. The only thing that doesn't really get munched is Charlie as he's a heinous ginger thing.
Preparation can be easy or hard depending on the game (whether it needs or wants to be hung for a while) and how it was shot. If you haven't cracked a tooth on a bit of lead, you're way too young or sheltered In rural areas, most decent butchers will take carcasses and prepare them for you for a small fee. I currently have a freezer full of venison and duck

I take a brace home, and the rest of the birds get taken to a game dealer who sells it. Realistically, do people eat the game they shoot? How easy is it to prepare and ensure you don't break your teeth on shot? Any recommendations for places in yorkshire?
so maybe you shoot 10-20 birds yourself, and eat 2.
Left a good deposit on a second hand Air Arms TX200 on Thursday, I cant wait to pick it up after payday. I've had a few cheap air rifles before but I'm looking forward to having something that works a bit more consistently! Just need to get some permission to shoot on some land and I'm good to go, everything is starting to look like targets now, thats the only trouble!
I'll post some pictures when it finally arrives! (28th ish, cant come soon enough!)

I would find a decent gun shop, and go and try as many guns as you can for fit.
You say traditional, a side by side, but I would be looking for a nice multi choke over and under, which you could happily use on game shoots as well as clay shoots , and with a healthy budget of 5k, you have a wide choice.
I do own a 1890's Damascus barrelled hammer gun, if I'm feeling nostalgic, but I do shoot a lot better with my Beretta DT10.
