The PH Gun Cabinet - Shooting Matters
Discussion
Insurance ...obviously it's a good idea(and often mandatory ) to carry Public liability insurance for any shooting we do . I have belonged to BASC for years -but only for the insurance that membership confers. I only shoot a few days a year (a bit of rough shooting and some vermin control ) and when I got my BASC card I was gobsmacked to see that membership is costing me £122 per annum . As I can insure my car for not much more a rethink is needed - any recommendations for an affordable PL policy please?

Take a look at gunplan.co.uk. I have PL through them for £20 per annum. Very easy and widely accepted at places like long siberia as comparable to BASC / CPSA insurance. Which reminds me as I've just dug out my paperwork... Anyone else's licence renewal stuck in the Thames Valley backlog. I submitted my renewal application in early September and still not received. I have been issued a six month temp certificate but this does not allow gun purchase/transfer which is annoying. Get your applications in early chaps.

Great rifles. I have six of them: Mark I (22LR), Mark II Cond, Mark III, Mark III*, Mark V and a No2 Mark IV (22LR).
He said this one was manufactured in 1915. I think he said no.3 ? Anyway it looked like new. Not as heavy as I thought it would be. Not that stout to shoot but he could have loaded down. Also pretty accurate too at 50 meters I have a pretty good group.Must apply for a slot for one of these when I apply for my FAC
He was saying something about actions stretching and actions marked with numbers does that make any a sense?

My household policy has PL - I have BASC - Countryside Alliance plus The Guns on Pegs cover - so 4 times covered - I'll drop CA and BASC next year - check your household cover
Shame as BASC and CA are among the few that would fight for your right to continue shooting.aeropilot said:

Maybe the shorter sight base?
Just getting back into shooting after c15 years without. Joined my local club (Surbiton Postal) and currently learning to shoot prone with a jacket. Never used the clothing before so it's all abit weird but shooting decent groupings so far. Will be shooting gallery as well as that's more for me (I learned shooting as a kid free standing and leaning on a bench so feels more natural and less "cheating" than using the jacket.
That said I can see what prone shooting is a ll about and it's a nice challenge to learn something new so will probably get my own jacket and, once I'm through probation in 4/5 months consider getting a prone rifle as well.
Nice to be back into the sport and it's great how relaxing it is after work, all the breathing and concentrating I guess.

Unfortunatly just clays so far. I would like to get out on a shoot but suspect I lack both the funds and funky trousers to play the game. Having said that if any one knows of a shoot in the Manchester area, or is prepared to take some one out shooting for the first time please let me know. ceebmoj said:

Introductions to game shooting can be difficult to find. You might find a contact in a clay club or by beating on a local shoot. Either way, you're a bit late for this seasonIf you are prepared to pay for some coaching and want mentoring and introduction into game shooting then contact Ian Corrigan BASC coach on here http://basc.org.uk/sporting-services/basc-coaches/...

After four years resisting temptation I gave in and swapped my trusty old Lanber for a brand new Browning at Christmas.
Turns out buying guns really is a slippery slope, the other two cabinet slots have been filled since and I collect another four gun cabinet on Sunday...
