You wouldn't be the only one to do that...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PSYtDxWnE8
So it's that time of year and a new coat is needed. A good all rounder is needed but must be warm for standing in the cold for hours waiting for something to happen and properly waterproof whilst having enough movement for a bit of walked up. Had a Barbour Bransdale which was perfect but not waterproof, despite it claiming to be.
Thinking Harkila Frontier on offer for £250 ish (the upper end of the budget) or Deerhunter Muflon at £185 ish.
Any thoughts/experiences?
Check out sportsmanguncenter for deer hunter sales. I wouldn't hesitate buying the deerhunter muflon from my experience.
I bought a deerhunter With their membrane and it's become my favourite coat I can't belive how quality it is for the price I bought it.
So far mine has been perfectly waterproof but the mufflon looks perfect.
Some other versions cheaper but prob not as nice as the muflon.

My Shotgun Cert is up for renewal - I thought It'd be rude not to apply for full FAC at the same time, easpecially given I have about 100 acres behind my new farm that I have permission on.
I wonder what they'll allow from this list I included:
.22 air rifle
.22LR semi auto
.22-250
.223
3x moderator slots
Major rabbit and fox problem round here being N. Devon so my fingers are crossed.

I was advised ( correctly IMO ) not to bother with a FAC air-rifle, expensive, hard to sell second hand etc. I wonder what they'll allow from this list I included:

In the end I plumped for an extremely cheap and as it turns our very accurate second hand .22 Voere shot semi auto.
Rabbits are no longer a problem on my farm
No point in FAC-Air Unless you're Scottish. Unless you're doing endless ratting / rabbiting or are struggling with backstops then it's somewhat pointless - for shorter ranges a sub12 will do perfectly well, longer ranges .22LR HPs are perfect.
What they will allow will mostly depend on your level of proven experience - they don't like handing out a stack of slots to someone who has never held an FAC before, and especially not a bunch of CF without major justification. I wouldn't be surprised if they allow the .22RF and then push you towards higher power .22 or .17RF like HMR / WMR. Assuming they do allow CF (and you'll need to justify the range - acreage is a start but it depends on what the land is cleared for) and for fox only then they likely won't be happy or see the point of .22-250 and .223 as they'll see them as doubling up for the same purpose. Again especially on first application they dislike doubling up, even on RF. In terms of justification for RF its easy - semi and bolt, for CF it's a little trickier unless you're going with the different glass argument.
Having said all of that, I was advised to ask for far more than I "need" and then gracefully accept the loss of something - that way they feel they have curtailed your purchasing, and you lose something you didn't really want in the first place so it's win-win!

Oh and ps, if it were me and my rabbit problem, I'd spend less money on a second hand .22 rifle and put the saved budget towards a decent night vision scope like a Yukon XT, becuase that will make vastly more difference to your rabbit bag than buying an expensive gun.
Dead right.Interesting to see who's best and worst when it comes to wait times for processing new FAC/SCG grants and renewals.

Yes, marvellous if, like me, you live in Thames Valley.http://www.shootinguk.co.uk/firearms/firearms-lice...
My renewal last year took more than 6 months. I've just put in for a variation a couple of weeks ago, so maybe I can buy something new next summer!

In fact the home counties/south isn't really a good place, with Essex, Kent, TVP and Hants among the worst of the Forces!!
Clearly you need to live in a vertical line from Sussex up through Surrey, the Met, Herts and into Beds to be OK!
A friend of mine has just moved out of the Met, and he and his missus (both of them FAC/SGC) were looking at a big area to possibly move to, encompassing TVP, Hants and Wilts....and they wisely chose to move to Wilts
