I've taken my dad and brother clay shooting on several occasions recently and they've really enjoyed it, and based on that, my mum wanted to send us all on a nice day out to Bisley (the Braidwood one as that's only an hour or so from us) but it would appear that everyone who shoots at Bisley has to be a certificate holder AND have their own insurance such as BASC?
Is that correct?
Every other clay ground I've been to round here allows non certificate holders to shoot as long as they are supervised by a certificate holder, and you don't need your own insurance.
It would be a shame if we couldn't go to Bisley!

If you're looking for a simulated game day in that area I can thoroughly recommend the Punchbowl & Blowingstone shoot. Had a fantastic day there last year, lots of variety including grouse butts. So much shooting the barrels were scolding.

Or are you asking about looking for somewhere in the UK to do what you do when in the USA...?
If the latter, then you're out of luck really, as that's not really something you can do in the UK. Some clubs do have strictly controlled 'guest' sessions, but it's a case of contacting various local clubs to find out what they can or can't do. Most like won't be full-bore either, and only small-bore.
A few years ago, NRA Bisley used to hold a Open Day event twice a year, where you could pre-book some vouchers and use them to have a short go on any of the many rifle/shotgun disciplines set up and run by many of the member clubs. Was a very good event for introducing new people to the sport, but sadly, for whatever reason, its no longer put on.

You've got lots of options up where you are. Go on the NRA website and have a look through the Clubfinder section for your area, or just give the NRA a call and talk to them. If you want to do longer range stuff, like 600yrds etc, you'll need to find a club that does regular shoots at the couple of MOD ranges up your way.Understand what i do over in the states with an 'arrive and shoot' is a bit of a none starter over here. You will have to go through probationary period with any club, before you get to the spending a fortune on membership and FAC application stage, so don't worry about that.
What you need though is finding a club that doesn't have a waiting list for joining.
Maybe worth joining Full Bore forum as well.

My SGC and FAC run out in Oct. I am in Met area, which is supposed to be reasonably good. If it does not go through in time, they issue a temporary permit.I have to show my SGC to gain access to the shoot area, it's MoD land, so no Cert equals no shoot.
The national situation is a total shambles.

Not surprised, Hampshire is terrible.A couple who I've been friends with for decades, and are both fellow club members, moved out of London last year, and they were looking all around places in Hampshire, Berkshire, and Wiltshire, and choose Wiltshire primarily on the basis of the issue of their FAC/SGC's.
