my hatsan escort

I hear they are very hit or miss.. so try before you buy to make sure it loads and cycles correctly

I use and prefer a pump action. A bit anti social to some, but I really couldn't care less. You can also get a cheeky 3rd shot out of them too wink

Auto's are nice, but can be more maintenance intensive vs a pump.

Also if you're not a large statue do consider a .20 bore. You really don't give much away in terms of punch or range but do gain a lighter more compact gun making it quicker and easier to handle.

I've got one as a cheap beater and it's great. Can be sensitive to loasds though, I tend to shoot 32 with it and it cycles 100%.

One of the things that I like about a semi-auto is that you can strip it down a lot more than a boxlock or O/U.

I can shoot a 12 happily, but i thought a 20 may be less of a kick, and lighter to walk with but I'm not sure now, depends what they have in the shop I guess. I will be mainly shooting walked game and vermin though. I suppose I could always use a light load in a 12 Bore for longs days though? 30g no7 cartridges doesn't really bother me though.

I saw a nice (for one) Baikal O/U in 12G with single trigger ejectors and select fire... any good? We have a SS and its a good working gun smile

At my Price range £350 its really about whats there.

I always found the kick off my old 20 alot harder than from my 12. Couldnt explain the science as to why (less mass absorbing the recoil energy?), but putting 100 cartridges through my 20 really took its toll on my shoulder but I can shoot a 12 all day long.

The amount of kick varies from gun to gun. As well as my pump I've also got a double trigger side by side and a Baikel OU. With the same cartridges the SS kicks like a mule, much more violent and painful than the OU. I'm not sure of the exact cause though.

I suspect your OU is much heavier which will soak up a lot of the recoil.

The SS is quite light, but it truly kicks like no other gun I've ever experienced. 10 rounds is through it is enough to cause bruising.

I had a Bettinsoli that battered me.
It was gunfit not the gun.
I had some cast and drop put on and no recoil.

Jem911, nice 20 gauge. Been looking for something similar for PhilboSE Jnrs, haven't found anything "right" yet. A Yildiz for about £500 is the closest so far...

New Year is in and I think I might treat myself to a Perazzi HPX. Must Not Tell Wife.

I have a Miroku MK70 Sporter and it does well for both Game & clays as well as being proofed for Steel (wildfowl), have in mind getting a Biakal O/U as a second rough gun as they are basic but effective on the ones I've tried, quite solid and if you run out of ammo you could probably beat things to death with it.

@phil

Hold on. Plenty way nicer than a Yild come up. Keep a close eye on Guntrader.
Nice work on the Perazzi.
I am sticking with my Miroku for the foreseeable future.
I will wait for a couple of years until my averages go up.
Shooting abroad in the Worlds and Europeans for FITASC this year and the Miroku is so well fitted I wouldn't want to risk taking anything else.

Bunny burgers for dinner tonight biggrin

I think I got all the no.7 shot out - I have some grand prix 5 shot to try, see if they are a bit better ( I heard they have a bit better distance on them) Only saw one bunny lamping tonight and missed it, but it was at 50 yards so would be lucky anyway. Still having problems with the single shot Baikal firing too high, but not worth getting it fitted to me since I'll be getting my own soon enough. (the Baikal is the farm gun for foxes etc, whilst I want my own to shoot on others land and to actually hit stuff with hehe)

Does anyone here watch the fieldsports Britain on Youtube?
